I Enlisted in the US Army in 1998
Yes  I will Volunteer to the Vietnam War Project. I was a Commissioned Officer in the Transportation Corp., US Army. We were among the first to arrive in Vietnam after President LB Johnson ordered the military buildup in 1965. My duty was to be a convoy officer to organize, and escort trucks for the resupply mission from Quy Nohn, a coastal port, to the Central Highlands. We covered more than 247 miles of jungle infested roads to  An Khe, Bon Song, Rt.19 to Cambodia border, Camp Halloway, Cheo Rio, Dak To, Fire Base Columbia, Ple Me, and Pleiku,

In 1965, we supplied 101st Airborne, 1st Air Cavalry, 25th Division and a Korean Division.

A typical convoy consisted of 60 5-Ton tractors with 12-ton trailers, and 30-5,000 gal trailers for transporting fuel. The convoys ran daily.

I thought that I had signed up to the Civil War Project before but I see that I have not - I'm requesting to join!

I have a few ancestors who served (list not finished yet, but what I have so far):

My 3x great-grandfather Hiram Abbott served in the US Army in the Civil War.[8] He enlisted in the the 83rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment on 21 August 1862.

My third great-grandfather Wesley John Benskin enlisted in Company H, 130th Illinois Infantry Regiment in 1862. Wesley fought in many including many battles and campaigns. In 1864 he and most of his regiment were captured at the Battle of Sabine Crossroads in Texas. He was paroled in 1865 and returned home to his family.[9][10][11]

My cousin, 4x removed, Amanda (Abbott) Morford was married to Medal of Honor recipient Jerome Jefferson Morford.

My great-great-grandfather Oliver Goldsmith Ranck served in the US Civil War with the US Army - Illinois 50th Infantry.[14] Oliver enlisted in Illinois in 1861, his Regiment was named the "Blind Half Hundred."

Hi, I've been - creating, connecting, sourcing & adding ANZAC details to - profiles I'm encountering during research for Projects I'm working with, such as the Australia or Profile Projects and my ONS (Woods). I've added my name to the list of participants outlining what I'm doing.

Hello my name is Candice Hines. I have been researching my ancestors and have come across a few military connections. I have found many civil war ancestors, and would like to find out more about where they served, and the battles they fought, on both sides of the conflict. In some cases the next generation married children of soldiers that fought against each other! That must have made for some interesting family parties!

Hello! I'm Kaylene and I mostly work on genealogy for family members from the Deep South, up the East Coast, and further north into New England. I'm currently living in New York City. :)

I've had ancestors participate in every war the US has fought in all the way back to the Revolutionary War. I enjoy researching war documents and have a subscription to Fold3. I also have a Newspapers.com subscription, which helps with finding lists of captured and killed soldier, dates of battles and the new people back home would have been receiving, and context for the lives my ancestors were living.

I'm also a Sourcerer and a Data Doctor, and I'm a stickler for correct, thorough documentation from multiple sources.

I'm very interested in joining the following projects:

  • US Civil War (Porter-11941 and many others)
  • The Great War (still adding)
  • World War II (Turner-19550)
  • 1776 Project (Standifer-86)

Not sure if I've already joined this.

I was a Navy Cryptologic Technician from 1968-1995. Retired from the Naval Reserve as a Senior Chief.

My Father and Uncle served in Europe in WW II and my Grandfather Roy Farr was a Lt. in France in WWI

How can I help?

I would like to become involved in the categories for WWII British Army.  I've been given the project badge but no information about how to actually do anything.
by Madelaine Kirke G2G3 (3.3k points)

Madelaine, if you find a category that needs to be created hat doesn’t already exist, there is a form you can use to request the creation.

Every non-existent category you help to identify and create makes the M&W Project that much better!

Great.. but I'd like to really work them into a coherent set and remove errors (Royal Field Artillery was gone by 1939) and I can't do that without discussion, surely?

Regarding the revolution, I've added DAR citations to all my direct ancestors on that list, except one on the presidents project. There's a good variety, including a handful of Quakers and Mennonites. I had created a mess in one family which no one had called me on, sibling pairs marrying sibling pairs in 2nd marriages after the war. I haven't decided whether to go into my children's and their spouses' ancestors and the exaggerations told by their parents.  The stories are wild enough without the exaggerations.

For the civil war, I've been collecting lists of cousins, including the families of brothers and cousins on opposite sides, even in POW camps commanded by their relatives.  This would lead to adding many missing profiles.

Tim, are you requesting to join the Military and War Project?
Yes, if those activities fit the project.
Absolutely! I’ll badge you right now.
