Yes I will Volunteer to the Vietnam War Project. I was a Commissioned Officer in the Transportation Corp., US Army. We were among the first to arrive in Vietnam after President LB Johnson ordered the military buildup in 1965. My duty was to be a convoy officer to organize, and escort trucks for the resupply mission from Quy Nohn, a coastal port, to the Central Highlands. We covered more than 247 miles of jungle infested roads to An Khe, Bon Song, Rt.19 to Cambodia border, Camp Halloway, Cheo Rio, Dak To, Fire Base Columbia, Ple Me, and Pleiku,
In 1965, we supplied 101st Airborne, 1st Air Cavalry, 25th Division and a Korean Division.
A typical convoy consisted of 60 5-Ton tractors with 12-ton trailers, and 30-5,000 gal trailers for transporting fuel. The convoys ran daily.
