MY great grandfather was "Isam Turk" born 1826, census shows born in South Carolina.

he married Caroline Turk (b1828) they had 1 daughter and 4 sons.

Lewis b 1855 - Oct 1930,    Gilbert b 1857- Jan 1937,  Albert b1861- May 1932,

Johnson  b1867- Jan 1958, Emily b 1863 until 1956.

I am told that " Emily" my grandmother was the child of her owner, and could pass for white.   Emily married my grandfather Henry Smith Sr.  in Alabama.

I have no knowledge of where Isam (or Ison) was from, or who were his parents. the only info is what was on the 1870 census.   Can you Please HELP

Death: Date unknown, SnowHill, Wilcox County, Alabama.

Caroline Morris Turk born 1828, SnowHill, Wilcox County, Alabama, died  Dec 27, 1912 in SnowHill, Wilcox county, Alabama, USA

  • Caroline's Parents: Benjan H Morris 1789 – 1860;  Kissiah Evans  1793 –
Benjan:  Birth 1789 in North Carolina
    Death 1860 in Cooper, MO

Kissiah:  Birth 1793 in South Carolina
    Death Unk in Alabama

Emily Turk:  Birth 1863 in SnowHill, Wilcox county, Alabama/  Death 1956 in Birmingham, Jefferson county, Alabama

Family Search gives marriage date to Henry Smith:
20 Apr. 1890 in Wilcox, Alabama.  You might find other information you need there:

That's all I could find on Isam.  Suggest you google Alabama Find-A-Grave and see if it is listed, but without a date of death, you might not find it.  He also has to have a death certificate that you might be able to find from SnowHill and a record of birth somewhere.  Hope you can find them.
