Rhodesians and Zimbabweans on WikiTree

Over the last few months I have been involved with developing the ‘platform’ for Rhodesian and Zimbabwean profiles, through Southern Rhodesia, Rhodesia and Zimbabwe. A lot of work has gone into place and cemeteries categorization.  I have loaded many hundreds of profiles, many military and police profiles, and have been sourcing them with the limited resources we have. It would be good to get together others who have an interest in this region, including the surrounding nations. I would love to develop a set of profiles for The Pioneers, politicians, notable people, catalogue the various cemeteries and so many other things.  Alas, too much for one person to be meaningful.  We need a team of enthusiasts, who have some time at their disposal.  Would anyone like to join an informal team?  Drop me a line and let me know your interest.

Hello again, Andrew.  My friend from Zimbabwe is interested in WikiTree. I just posted a question asking the best way to get him started.

His parents immigrated to Rhodesia from Dundee. His father is called George Forbes Robertson (not found on WikiTree) and he (Gordon) thinks all his ancestors were forever in Scotland!

I will direct him to you for research help, if that is OK.
Thank you Kristina - he would be very welcome to make contact.

Hi Andrew,

As there seem to be very few Africans (whether born in Africa or residing there) on Wikitree, what I would recommend is that you post about your work on some Facebook groups developed to Rhodesian and Zimbabwean genealogy. I'm sure there are people out looking to research their ancestry, and they might be interested in joining us here at Wikitree if they knew of your work.

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for your message and suggestion.  I am already working on social media.   I have noticed a little resistance to WikiTree versus the more well know genealogy sites.  It may be interesting to bring back some of the comments in a separate thread.

Has a list of the following  people (19) 23 born in Rhodesia and Variants?

Hope this information may help.

Hi Andrew

I am a second generation Zimbabwean. My parents were both born in Southern Rhodesia and their parents were migrants from South Africa and England.

I have just started using WikiTree and would be really keen to join a Zimbabwe/Rhodesia project.

As an aside, also noticed that Zimbabwe voter registration forms have started to be indexed on FamilySearch - I stumbled onto a registration record for my grandmother's older half brother which led me to the collection. It is well organised and I was quickly able to find ALL of my grandparents' registration record images. BEST FIND YET!!! They are a trove of information!!

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/497766?availability=Family%20History%20Library

There also look like some interesting records attributed to the Rhodesian Registrar (mostly unindexed...): https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&query=%2Bauthor_id%3A349828

Really wanted to share this with anyone who might also appreciate these records :-) Please do add me to the project if it is alive. I will be slowly adding my tree to extend the profiles we have for that corner of the world.

Hello Andrew, I definitely have an interest Rhodesia / Zimbabwe profiles.  My great grandparents / grand parents were Rhodesian Pioneers and Early Settlers arriving in Bulawayo in the 1890's / early 1900's.  I was born there as was my mother and my father was educated and spent a lot of time there.  I have only recently joined Wiki Tree and have come across the Space:RPW Rhodesian Pioneer Women page - which has proved useful.  Still finding my way around.

I would be keen to join a Rhodesia / Zimbabwe Project and collaborate in any way others with this area of interest.

Thanks.
