Could my father have been conceived in Auburn State Prison in 1941?

Dad was born Dec. 1941, his mother lived with her dad and her husband was in prison.  I need to find out is conjugal visits were allowed in theAuburn State prison in 1941.  Dad is the 3rd boy and only the first one used the Ames name his whole life.  Dad thought his name was Chilson until retirement forms required his birth certificate which revealed his name as Ames!  I am trying to find out if his father was Alby Roscoe Ames or Howard Willis Chilson is.  Alda may have had an affair with Howard but since they weren't married she may have just given dad her last name (married name).

The New York State Archives holds records for Auburn from 1817 to 1970, so you might be able to get his file: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/research/res_topics_gen_guide_prison.shtml

I haven't found anything to really help me with my question.  I did contact the prison and asked but they didn't know the answer.  They offered to look for it and send it to me for a fee.  I wasn't willing to pay for it, not knowing 100% who the father truely is.

Perhaps you need a dna that might clear up the mystery and perhaps find you a few extra relatives as well.
