Is there a delay in updating Unconnected Profiles right now?

I added several connections on April 7 but the people are still showing as Unconnected:

For example:  John Middleton Fairweather 1851 Aberlemno, Angus, Scotland, United Kingdom - 1934 ~ managed by Pam Thomson [0 connections] [search] [view all Fairweathers]

Apparently there's a broken connection somewhere on the connection path for this person. Do you remember who the critical link was when you connected him to the tree?

Thanks for the quick answer.

I think I connected him to his father Fairweather-1195, along with several of his siblings, all of whom are still listed as 0 connections:

Is there supposed to be a blood relationship between your Fairweather line and this family of Fairweathers? Relationship Finder is not showing a relationship between you and  Alexander Fairweather-119 (you are connected to the big tree, but this Alexander is not).

It's possible that there was a connection once, but a relationship got disconnected. Or maybe there's a pair of duplicate profiles. Duplicates can create a situation where Person A and Person B both appear to be connected to Person C, but in fact there are two different profiles for Person C.

Oh, I see what you mean. The connection has to be to me? These are people in my Fairweather One-Name Study and because they come from the same area I know my family is from, I feel that there is a connection but I haven't made that link yet. Sorry to have misunderstood the concept.

Pam
No, the connection doesn't have to be to you.  The connection needs to be to someone (anybody, not just you) who is already connected to the tree.

If your Fairweathers are an isolated family, they will stay Unconnected-to-the-main-tree until they connect to a person who is.  Just because they lived in the same area is not enough.

Thanks to Ros for explaining. smiley

Hi, Pam,

Connecting a profile to the big tree means connecting it by means of bloodlines or marriages to a profile that shows the "degrees from" connections at the bottom of the page. It is not just a matter of connecting one profile to another.

Once a connection is made to a previously connected profile, it can take up to 24 hours for the connection to be recorded on the original profile plus any you created to make the connection.

Hope that helps. smiley
