I can’t find my way around...

Hi everyone,

Ok so I can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing on WikiTree. I don’t seem to be related to anyone and I can’t figure out how to add to my watch list.

I’m not even sure if that’s where I go to search someone. I have an ancestor named James Rees born around 1798 in Swansea. So if someone has anything on him, then how do I find that? Also is that the right place to be looking?

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to WikiTree, David!

In order to begin adding family to WikiTree, you need to create your research tags and Volunteer. Go to your Navigation Home Page. On that page, you should find boxes labeled Tag and Comments. In one or more of the boxes labeled Tag type a surname or family location that you are researching. In the box underneath labeled Comment, indicate why it is important to you.

Then scroll down the page to the bar that says "Add Tags and Volunteer." Once you click on that bar, a Greeter will see that you want to join WikiTree and will come by and confirm you as a member. You can then add your family and you will receive a link to the new member tutorials offered by WikiTree.

Hope that helps and please let us know if you need further assistance.

I have also added a message on David's profile explaining how to volunteer.
Hello Deb,

Thank you for your time and help. I have started do do those things now and that should get me on the road to making some progress.

But would you believe, I still can’t find the area where I sign the honour code?

Regards

David

Hi, David,

You can find the Honor Code heresmiley

You can't add to your Watchlist because you are still a Guest member.  You will need to add tags and volunteer and be confirmed by a Greeter to gain full membership.

Go back to your question; under it you will see a tiny text link 'edit'.  Click on that, and add the greeters tag to your question.  That will alert them more quickly. smiley

If you go to Find at the top right of this page, you can look down that menu to see Surnames. There are over 1,000 with the Rees surname. If you narrow the search to David Rees, you will find a fair number with your name. Some trace back to Wales.

Also, you can check out the Help menu by clicking on Mentors. By reading over the list and their description you can select a contact or two that can be a resource person for your genealogical interests.

Hi Frank, that’s a good suggestion on narrowing down some Rees individuals. Thank you very much.
