Today marks the 154th anniversary of the Battle of Boykin's Mills in South Carolina. This was the last major engagement of the 54th Massachusetts during the Civil War, joined by the 102nd United States Colored Troops (USCT) and the 107th Ohio.
You can read a complete public domain account of the battle on the profiles of any of these men.
Of note: There is an excellent book recently published on the Jay brothers: Hinsonville's Heroes by Dr. Cheryl Renée Gooch.
