Is there a trick in downloading a gedcom from Wikitree using a mac?

I am trying to export a gedcom from wikitree.  I right click on the file and choose 'download linked file save as' the file name appears as 6246436-ee05e5.ged.

When it saves it saves it as 6246436-ee05e5.ged.txt.  So it adds 'txt' to it.  Its a text doc which I then can't use as gedcom.

Any ideas about what I am doing wrong?

Veronica, I use a Mac and do not encounter this problem so I'm thinking it's some Apple setting that is appending the .txt to the file name. Try this: edit the name of the downloaded file, removing the .txt.  Then see if your genealogy software will then import the GEDCOM.

I just tried that in Finder.  Renamed the file to 6246436-ee05e5.ged.  It then automatically reverted the name to 6246436-ee05e5.txt!

There must be something funny about the way I am doing it!

That definitely sounds like some Mac setting.  Try googling the problem and see if there isn't an answer out there for you.

Thanks Billy, will try that out as soon as I can!

Finally got back to this today.  Tried using solution 1, but now it just adds rtf to the file name!  Tried to rename it when saving but kept reverting to txt.  Must be doing something basic wrong!  I'm relatively new to the mac so some things are still a mystery to me.  Been persevering, finally managed to change the name in Finder and it worked!  Renamed it to ged and it imported to FTM Ok.  Thanks again.
Thanks Veronica & Billy, I'm a long-time Mac user and had the same problem. I might have given up, but after I read what you did, I kept changing the file type from .txt to .ged until finally a dialog box popped up and asked if I wanted to change the file type. Gramps finally opened it--success!
