I'm at a dead end John Vaughan

+1 vote

My search for my mother's side has come to a dead end. I'm looking for information about John Vaughan

birth: 1825 North Carolina, United States

Death:2 February 1901 New Castle Indiana

wife: Elizabeth Betsy Key

My mom told me she also remembers her grandfather telling her that when they moved from North Carolina to New Castle Indiana, they had two slaves they brought with them. I can not find any information on this.

I have an account on familysearch.org do you have an account on familysearch.org? Did you ever find if they had slaves?
The Sarah who is 8 in the 1880 US Census, and not as a daughter, makes me wonder what her relationship is.

There are other Censuses that possible could indicate slaves, such as 1860 and 1870 Censuses.

There was another Sarah Vaughan much more recent who was a well know and very good singer.

If he is the John Vaughn living in Surry County NC in 1860 (and it appears that he is) then he did not have slaves.  The family did not go west until after the Civil War so could not have taken enslaved people with them
