Elizabeth Phillips was a native of New York and was born about 1802 (or possibly as early as 1795, depending on the source record) but seems to have lived most of her early life in Bristol, England. First record for Bristol I've found is 1806.

Ended up as a convict in Australia - good record of her life there but no family background in any of the records so no idea of parents etc.

Any likely birth/baptism/shipping leads much appreciated.

Also, theories about how a New Yorker ends up in Bristol at this time, given ill feeling between the countries.

OK, theory time.  Let's do an exciting one. :-) Any idea what she was convicted of?  How about espionage?
Nothing so interesting - larceny of the person - essentially pickpocketing - wasn't her first appearance in the court either, although her first conviction.

Her parents might have been Loyalists durring the Revolution. Most fled to Canada, but many returned to Brittain.
