Familysearch.org has Emma J. Williamson in the 1880 United States Census, Titabawassee, Saginaw, Michiigan, born Canada, est. 1862. age 18 yrs. She is the daughter of John 38, and Alzina 31, Williamson.

Emma's three younger siblings were born in Michigan.

Elizabeth A. 6, John A. 4 and another son, Jessee A. 1 yr old.

Emmie Williams in the 1871 Canada Census, York, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, district 44. Age is 9, Nationality shown as Irish, Religion C of England, estimated birth date 1862.

Parents are John and Ann Williams. John is 37, Ann is 34 born Ireland. Siblings of Emmie are George 18, Mary Ann 16, Francis 15, Eliza 13, Adelaid 11, Richard 7, Thomas 4, Margret 6, and Caroline 1.

I have added the 1871 Canada Census to her profile and her father's profile.

For the 1871 Canada Census, if you just increase the last digit in the Canada Census web address by one, you can flip through the family.  

Or just copy and past the link on the father's profile and just increase by one once you know the order on the census.

Sorry, cannot find which family adopted her after her mother's death.  I think I found her sister Carrie but not her.  Good luck on your search.

Did her parents have any other siblings in Canada or U.S.?  Did any of the children get sent to their aunts or uncles?  I note that about three of siblings end up in the U.S., just wondering if they were sent to live with family.  

The loss of the 1890 U.S. Census does not help your situation.

If another Canadian family adopted her, they could have changed her name due to what happened with her parents.  I could not find anything with her birth day, so hard to find with a changed name.

DNA is a long shot, as you do not know if she lived to be an adult or had children.

Quite the puzzle.

look at Thomas's profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Williams-74644 he is living with Maggie and her husband in the 1900 US Census (as brother-in-law) and then his death certificate in 1904 has the same address as the 1900 Census.

Do you know anything about the children born between the 1871 census and the death of the parents in 1877?

The Globe & Mail article says they had 14 children, the 1861 and 1871 census records only list 12. you may be missing 2 or 3 children (not sure if Ellen would be included in the 14).

Does anyone have Toronto Library access? They have the Globe and Mail archives online. I wonder if there would be a story about the incident, perhaps naming the children or where they ended up.

I've added the Censuses and a list of children to Ann's profile with bare notes on when we last see them. 

There does not appear to be any record of the births of any of the children.

Trying to trace out where they go, to see if some of them end up with each other (like Thomas & Maggie).

With EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS to S. Stevenson, there are now several articles posted to John's profile from the trial and including witness statements from four of the children.

It's amazing to be able to find these kinds of sources, but what a horrific tragedy befell that poor woman and her children.
