Hi! I am looking for the parents or siblings of a Ransom (Ramsey/Ram) Cranford (Crawford) who apparently was born between 1810-1826, although most references say 1820. He married twice; once to a Margaret Doby in 1847, Davidson County NC. Second marriage was to Nancy Linnens in 1854. All I know about him is he apparently ran a ferry over Deep River, and his arm was badly burned during the time of the Mexican-American war, and he could not go fight at that time because of it. I have found a "Craffords Path" or Crawford Road that crosses a ford in  Deep River in NC, and am wondering if that is where he was from, and worked the ferry. He is a mystery...I don't even think Margaret Doby died before he remarried. His wife Nancy and a daughter (Martha) are both buried at Flagg Spings Church but Ransom isn't.

There is an Anslum Ramsey on my family, born 1832 in Missouri, however he was married toArethusa C. Moore. His father was Samuel Ramsey. I don't know if this may help you or not yet it may be a lead. They had a daughter named Martha Eva Ramsey aka Eva Martha Ramsey. Good luck.

Thank you
I was just going through some old posts and saw your post concerning Anslum Ramsey. My maternal grandfather was Lee Ramsey, a son of Anslum Ramsey and Ellen Batson.I would like to compare notes with you and see if we might be able to be of any help to one another.

Thanks,

Margaret Doby's father (Alsey) is my great...grandfather.  I found these notes that I made a few years ago and then gave up on him.  It might help.....

Ransom Cranford married Margaret Doby 31 Jul 1847 in Davidson Co., NC.  Ransom Cranford also married Nancy Linnens 8 Jul 1854 in Randolph Co., NC.  Have never found Ransom Cranford on a NC census index 1850, 1860, 1870.

Found a Ranson Crawford age 44, Greensboro PO, Guilford Co., NC,
1860 census, pg. 147, visitation no. 1014. Wife named Nancy age 32-
children: Jane age 13, Elizabeth age 8, Martha age 6, George W. age 5,
Susan age 5/12.

Then in 1870 found a Ram Cranford (Crawford on index) age 50, Hill Twp., Montgomery Co., NC, pg 408, visitation no. 53. With wife Nancy age 40-children: Martha age 14, Susan age 8, Roxana age 7, Henry age 4, ? Bleu age 2 a female.

Then consider Ransom Cranford married in Randolph County to Nancy Linnens on July 8, 1854. Look at Martha and Susan both on 1860 and 1870 census with the multi-named Cranford and wife Nancy in both cases.

It appears this Ram, Ranson and Ransom Cranford (Crawford) most likely the same and wife Nancy and two of the children match up. Suspect Ransom's first wife Margaret Doby died 1852 or 1853. The older children in 1860 named Jane & Elizabeth most likely the children by this first wife Margaret.
