It seems pretty clear from the grave marker that she married James Templeton. As James and William appear to originate from the same place in Scotland and both ended up in Lanark, Ontario, and both were tanners I'd say the chances were high that they are related and quite possibly brothers.

Probably correct. My screen Reader cannot read the gravestone.

Perth Courier (in Janet McIlquham-17 gives father James brought the family to Canada c1816 (with  3 children)

The Find Grave Index for Margaret McIlquham-23 gives a date range of 1812 - 1855.

Thanks for the star, Peter. blush

It is quite possible that Janet's sister Margaret married Williams brother!!!

This happens quite a lot - even in the present time!!!

OTOH the FMP details above do seem to give a different spouse for Janet - unless Janet was married more than once.

Profile says Janet was born Canada.

.

A Margaret McIlquham died in Scotland in 1856, aged 40.  A Margaret McIlquham married a John Rob in 1833 (Scotland),  A Margaret McIlquham married a John Steward in 1828 (Scotland).

It really depends on this Margaret McIlquham going to Canada with the parents. If she did, none of the above can be her.  If she did not, then the above are possibles.
Also .. it'd be a tad difficult to marry in Scotland when you're in Canada .. born in 1822, married in 1826?
