PPP needed for LNAB protection; Scotland, can you take him?

It looks like the primary reason for PPP is to protect the odd spelling of his surname from being modernized.

Scotland, can you take him?

The profile really needs an "Unsourced" banner and category, rather than project protection at the moment.  There is no source to suggest that his name is Melross.  Additionally, the only person who can change his LNAB are the profile manager and those on the trusted list.

Hi, Kathie,

PPP also protects the LNAB by controlling merge direction so that a profile with the correct LNAB cannot be merged into a profile with an incorrect LNAB thereby changing the name.

PPP needs to be project managed though, so Jillaine, one of our Project Leaders, is asking if the Scotland Project is willing to manage the profile so the PPP can remain in place. wink

We have a Thomas Melrose married 12 miles from Edinburgh, and a baptism 35 miles away on the Border.  Nothing in particular to say they're the same person.  But if we say they are, then obviously we're discounting the spelling difference as random noise.

So protecting the spelling is pointless pedantry at best.  And without seeing the image, we could just be protecting a transcription error or an indeterminate squiggle.  Presumably the name only appears once, ie "Thomas son of George Melross" is all we have.
I see, Deb.  That is helpful to know re merge direction.
RJ,

All of the entries for the christenings of George's children have the spelling "Melross." It is neither arbitrary nor pedantic.

No problem, Kathie.I've been here for two years tomorrow and I still learn something new almost every day. wink

Only two years and a skillful as you are! Amazing.
