I really wanted to find a photo of someone in a costume, but I had no luck.
So here is my great-grandmother, Maud, with her friend Ina, in the late 1920s. They're probably about sixteen years old, and I'm sure they carefully considered every piece of their coordinated outfits, from their hats to their shoes.
When Maud had her hair cut into a bob, her father didn't approve, and he told her she'd have to wear a hat. She did, I guess, but she looks okay with the hat.
Around this same time, Maud spent her days working in a pencil factory. But she's not in her work clothes now, and I bet she felt pretty and fashionable.
