The Addingtons from England then in Virgina, were mostly Methodist or Anglican, was Hugh J. Addington, Jr. Jewish?

Those types of markers are supplied by the government for veterans and the Star of David may have been an error on their part or he may have inadvertently checked a wrong box on a record at some point. It's also possible he converted, but that seems less likely. His other marker has praying hands with a cross.

I had wondered about the military angle myself. In the past, I've seen a distant family member listed as Jewish in military materials while being pretty certain he had not converted or married into a Jewish family. It's good to keep a mind open to possibilities.

Yep, it happens. The marker is supplied at no cost to the veteran's family, so they are unlikely to worry about it too much and they may not even be aware of the significance.

Time frame would help, Was Hugh J Addington Sr. born in England and if so, what year? Where was Hugh J Addington. born, England or Virgina and what year was he born? Do you know when Jr was married and the name of his wife? Was he married in Virginia?

You have asked several similar questions today about the Addingtons. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that they were Jewish but without a photo of the cemetery marker we are somewhat at a loss to understand what you are talking about.

There are other reasons there might be  Star of David on the marker, without the family being Jewish but this is more along the line of in depth research.

Perhaps some of our cemetery volunteers can weigh in also.
