German birth certificate

Hi,

I have hit an early brick wall with my German grandmother.  I don't even know her parents' names.  I know she was born in Muegeln, which was located about halfway between Leipzig and Dresden, in Saxony (Sachsen in German).  I have been trying to locate a birth certificate or baptism records, also in German sites, but alas.

She moved with her family to Bavaria, sometime between her birth and her marriage in 1931.

I've also tried searching using her sisters' names, both married and maiden.  But I have come up with nothing.

Any suggestions about where I could look?  Thanks!

You might try the city of Mügeln registrar.  I couldn’t find a link for “Standesamt,” which would be the registrar. Take a look at this link, it may have a contact that could get you to the right place.

I have had good luck in keeping copies of official documents from Germany.  There are fees, of course, and will vary with your bank, but in my case were nominal.
