Looking for help re: William Hindman

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MWVQ-B6V?from=lynx1UIV8&treeref=L5R2-DKC

the 1880 census lists him as "gentleman", and birthplace in Ireland.

I'm trying to piece together a lifestory and genealogical facts.

What would a "gentleman" from Ireland do, be during 1880 Philly?

and how he might have wound up passing away in Ohio

In 1870 he was listed as a carpet manufacturer. By 1880 he may have sold his business or retired to let a son take over.

Or perhaps he was still manufacturing carpets. wink

Very cool start.

Thanks.

Generally someone termed a "gentleman" was either a landowner living off rents, independently wealthy, or living off of investment income.  In other words, someone who didn't have to labor at a job.
