Challenge of the week: Correct simple errors in reference tags [closed]

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge of the week?

This is an easy one to participate in, once you know how reference tags work, i.e.:

  1. A footnote needs to start with <ref> and end with </ref>.
  2. There needs to be a <references /> tag directly below the == Sources == headline for the footnotes to display.

Using these tags is naturally confusing for Newts. It's very frustrating for new members when a tag is missing or misplaced and they can't figure out why footnotes aren't appearing.

Once again, Aleš has come up with something incredibly helpful. He's prepared a report of profiles from around the tree where a reference tag appears to be misplaced. Click here for the list.

Can you help fix them?

The member with the most points at 11:59pm EDT on Sunday night will get the Winner badge this week and the bragging rights. But we'll all benefit from a neater, cleaner shared tree.

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

Some of the names may look a little weird but it still works.Still working out the bugs in the new system. Below is a link on the G2G post explaining how to do Data Doctor Challenges with screenshots as well as the 2-part video.

I will do extra <reference/> tags

Aleš -  when you get a moment can you reboot the Status Counters as they appear to have stalled at 21.05.2019 02:55:16 - Slovenian time

Thanks

Tracker/status is down again...

As of 10:09 PM, May 22, 2019, total count is 34 corrected.  Perhaps, those who are participating in this weeks challenge should also post how many they've corrected.  I'm unable to set status' on any of them. Not loading. Hopefully the bugs will get vaporized soon.

We have some unidentified problems with our new hardware. Probably it will have to be replaced if no solution will be found. Sorry about this. It is happening almost daily now.
I have noticed some of the flagged errors may be triggered by the word "reference" in the enclosed text. The <ref> tags look reasonable from a HTML point of view, and are fine in both preview and browser. Should I mark the suggestions as  false, or does someone want to investigate more?
I do if you give me the profile.
Can you give us some examples of Profiles and suggestion errors?
@Ales, Linda,

Sorry, I have lost it for the moment. I am looking over what I worked on but haven't found any yet.

Some of these things are GEDCOM leftover messes and hard to figure out what was intended to be a reference.

I will post if I see another example.

@Ales, @Linda

Found one!

Finding some that use "name=" and then the name starts with a number. The name has to start with an alpha charater or it won't work right.

For example:

<ref name=1900Census>

will not work. However,

<ref name=c1900Census>

or

<ref name=Census1900>

are good.
Gil, I don't think that is correct.  They all appear to work fine, so long as there is a letter *anywhere*.  Try it.
I stand corrected. Thanks!

I did a number, though without a tracker or whatever (don't know how to do this yet).  I just used the spreadsheet and did some pre-1500s and pre-1700s.  I'll get up to speed on correct project participation some day.
