Did you know you need to OPT-IN to sharing your WIKI (WikiTree link) on GEDmatch?

With all the updates going on at GEDmatch with their switch over to GEDmatch Genesis by the end of this month AND the new automatic opt-out for law enforcement (LEO) searches, did you realize that you also need to make sure your WIKI, WikiTree Links are opted-in (if that is your choice) as well?

You do.

When I logged in this morning to change my automatically Opted-out kits for LEO from Opt-Out to Opt-In, I noticed a section just below where my Kits had been opted-out of showing my WikiTree link as well (one kit was Opted-In for this and one was Opted-Out). I very quickly made all of my personal kits visible to anyone on GEDmatch.

You will need to check yours to make sure your WIKI link is set to your personal choice.

Thanks for pointing that out Mags! I had opted in when on the original Gedmatch page, but when I looked at the Genesis page I was public and opted out of law enforcement.

Question, where is the wikitree opt in? My kit is showing.

Hey Sherrie,

The Opt-in on GEDmatch is at the very bottom of the page on GEDmatch's Opt-in page. There is no "opt-in" on WikiTree. When you enter your DNA test information and set your profile to

Private with Public Bio and Family Tree Private with Public Biography and Family Tree
Same as Private but anyone can view the biography and family tree.

You are telling WikiTree that you want your DNA information to be public on WikiTree.

Mags

I no longer see the option to peruse someone’s WikiTree when they come up on the 1:many match list.  Has this been moved to Tier-1?
It has moved to Tier 1 for now. This is in the pipes to be changed to all levels.
I cannot seem to located on Gedmatch in my profile where the wikitree information is stored. I see this video here, he says it's in your profile page but I cannot find it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm7T2yq1Fow
When you enter your test information into Wikitree, you would also add your GEDmatch or mitoYDNA ID's as well. When you enter your GEDmatch ID or mitoYDNA ID they will appear with your DNA test information on the right side of your profile.
Mags, I was asking the reverse, that video is talking about how wikitree shows on gedmatch (at least halfway through it does). I cannot find the area where wikitree is where I can select to allow that information to be used.
Gotcha - On GEDmatch click the pencil next from your Kits you manage section. At the bottom of the page click on the WikiTree information to opt-in to sharing your WikiTree ID.
Thanks a bunch Mags!!
When I uploaded my GEDcom to GEDmatch several years ago, it contained some errors. I cannot seem to find a way to correct them. SInce I joined wikitree, I have found so many corrections, but I still get inquiries based on the pedigree mistakes on GEDmatch. How can I edit my pedigree on GEDmatch?
Hey Mack,

I believe you can delete a GEDCOM and upload another. You can dowload a GEDCOM of your WikiTree limbs. Go to the drop-down menus top right, My WikiTree and scroll down to GEDCOMs.

cumbersome. I was able to delete my old GEDCOM, and download a new one from wikitree, but could not upload it. I get a 108 error Filename dot count = O whatever that means. It says make sure there is only one dot in the name, which there is, and it ends in GED  of course the file ends in .ged not sure if that makes a difference.
After getting the error messages many times, I tried it using the slow upload and it appears to have worked. Thanks, Mags
This is weird.  I keep trying to change the option to enable wikitree sharing for my kit on GedMatch from "disable" to "enable even if alias" -- and even though I change it, it keeps snapping back to "disable".  Am I missing something?

Mags, I think the change for opting in may date back to GDPR stuff a year or so ago, when WikiTree began to require explicit agreement for each DNA link. For instance, I had linked my tree to cousins who did not have a Wikitree account. That's no longer possible. My link to my kit at GEDmatch is intact.

But this was a good reminder! I made that kit Research after I created a Superkit, so now I need to modify the link here at WikiTree.

Follow-up: I was unable to enter my Superkit ID. It has a suffix of C1 (for combined, I assume), which made it too long. But my old link still works, even though I marked it Research. You can use various tools with Research kits if you have access to the kit ID.
Morning Anne,

I have made the tech team aware of this. Thanks!

Thanks for mentioning this Mags. I just checked mine and it had my WikiTree Link set to Disabled on GEDmatch Genesis, so I have changed it to Enabled.

Great!
I can't see the wikitree link on genesis.
Oh, have to be a tier one member.

I don't remember if I have already opted-in or not. I have looked all over Gedmatch and cannot find anywhere to do so.  Where do I go?

On the Genesis Home page select the Pencil icon next to your kits.  On the new page that comes up,  near the bottom is the Police option.  On that same page directly below the police is the Wikitree option.  Select Change on each to enable.  If you manage multiple kit each one will need to be checked.

Thanks, Karen.

I have several kits at GedMatch but only one of the references to WikiTree could be enabled.  The reference on the other kits read "No WikiTree link for this kit" with no hyperlink or setting to be changed.  How can I connect these kits to WikiTree?  Also, it appears the gedcom needs to be connected to some of the kits too.

Thanks for mentioning this, Mags.

Hey Jo,

If you manage kits for other people they must have their own WikiTree profile and post their own test information.

No test information from WikiTree will appear on profiles here or at GEDmatch, that are managed kits unless they are deceased and have the correct privacy level selected.

Thanks for youre reply, Mags.  It  wasn't  clear in my original question when I said, "I have several kits at GedMatch". . .  All of the kits where I tried to enable a WikiTree link are my own kits--one from Ancestry, one from FTDNA, and one from 23andme.  Each from a test of my DNA.  Only one kit in Genesis--the one from Ancestry--had a Wikitree link to make public.  Any possibilities the kits from FTDNA and 23andme could also have links to WikiTree?
You only have your Ancestry test entered here, so that's why it's the only one with the option.
