Any information on Edward Turner, Tonbridge, Kent, born 1788, would be appreciated.

Question

The Turners of the time were Baptists therefore there are no christening records for children as they were born, nor it seems, marriage documents extant. We are able to trace the family after their emigration to Canada, but I am very interested in locating information from BEFORE the move in 1832 (even that date may now be in doubt). All I have to go on is that he was an agricultural labourer (apparently illiterate), in the vicinity of Sevenoaks and Tonbridge, Kent. Edward is purported to be one of 8 brothers (not sure about sisters).

I am certainly aware of the Rochester Turners. I notice that someone has used it, as such; but the anecdotal information for OUR Edward Turner points to the Sevenoaks/Tonbridge area. As a farm labourer on one of the estates in the area ~ perhaps the Fairlawn Estate in Shipbourne, Penshurst Manor or even Igtham Mote. Are you aware of any extant rosters of labourers (c. 1750 - 1800) for large estates in Kent? I have even tried searching poor-house records in the area.
