Irish Manuscripts Commission backlist now digitised

Question

Hi

I just happened to come across the Irish Manuscripts Commission the other day including that many of their backlist publications have been digitised and are freely available.  See here http://www.irishmanuscripts.ie/servlet/Controller?action=digitisation_backlist

Haven't checked many of them out, but they seem to cover a range of topics and time periods.  Some will certainly be useful for anyone interested in Irish peerage families.

Thanks, John.  For the section I looked at, It doesn't have anything by way of genealogy, however, it gives you a feel for the countryside, giving descriptions of the borders of all the counties and parishes.  Also gives the names of the Lords who own the land and their predominate religion.

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunate that it appears (at my quick glance) that they require Adobe Flash to run. Which will be unsupported come 2020.

Most of the material relates to before 1700 but there's quite a lot there of genealogical interest, for example:

*Registry of Deeds Dublin abstracts of wills has details of 2000+ wills mainly from the 18th century

*King’s Inns Admission Papers 1607–1867, gives parentage and sometimes date of birth for entrants

*The Kenmare Manuscripts lists many of the tenants and their families.
