June 2019 Biography Builders - People married in June

This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is people married in June. Seems like the most popular month to get married. What month did you get married?

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

Okay guys, I am new to this.

So, I look in my (extensive) watchlist for June weddings, and then try to improve their bios, do I have that right? But how do I find the June weddings? Birth and death dates are easy...

And, am I supposed to "report back" to this group with the ones I have done?

Thanks,

Debbie the Noob
Go to your watchlist and click on anniversaries.  This will give you a list of those born, died or married in June!
Answer the post, then list the names, with ID, in the answer. As you do more bios, edit your answer.

I'm going to pass on this one...hopefully I'll be in next month. Happy BioBuilding everyone smiley

Bob,

When will the data for May be entered into the spreadsheet?

Thanks!

Alicia
I’m going to add it tonight.
Awesome! Thank you for all that you do!

I was married in June, as were my parents!  But we are all still alive!  But I will look to see if I have any profiles who were married in June to potentially improve the biographies.

My wife and I are April, and my parents are September, but I’m sure there are some June marriages on my watchlist.

I found one you can work on:

cheeky

I'm pretty sure you can use your own profile. When we were doing the adoption, I was told I could use mine - just not other living people.

I am in as well.  Not sure which profiles I am going to work on, I will have to go through and look at all the profiles and see which ones.  I will post a list as soon as I make one.

Back for my second month! It looks like I have 10+ profiles on my watchlist that will fit this theme. Hopefully I can get to at least five of them.

1. Ethel "Bessie" Browder Hotze - my maternal great-grandmother

2. Maggie Oliver Stamper - my 2x great aunt

3. Charles R. Hotze - my maternal great-grandfather; husband of Bessie above

4. Robert Baldwin Summerson - a 1x cousin 3x removed from a branch of the family I became interested in about a year ago. He was a movie theater operator in Virginia and West Virginia.

5. Mary C. "Dolly" Skaggs Summerson - Robert's wife, at least for a time. Dolly is related by marriage to two of my family lines.

edit: Completed my goal of 5 for the month! Hopefully I can get one or two more.

First one complete. It was an easy one - my parents.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Terrill-710

Second one not so easy. Lots of unsourced information available which will require additional work.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Levinger-28

Third with a surprise ending; they married in June 1891, but must have divorced between 1910 and 1913, when he married again;

Four:

I had an interesting experience yesterday. I was working on a 4th g-grandfather and -mother, married in June. When I started looking for all their children, I discovered they aren't my ancestors after all! There were 2 boys with exact same name, born within a couple years of each other, in the same town.  It took me a while to figure out who was related to who. And rewarding!

Interestingly, the Ancestry trees all have the incorrect parents listed. Which is why I never use them.
by Deborah Terrill G2G6 Mach 1 (12.7k points)
Great discovery, Deborah!  This is why I look at Ancestry trees as hints, not as facts.  Your super sleuthing skills are what makes WikiTree stand out from Ancestry, FamilySearch, and other sites.
I use Ancestry.com for the sources, but rarely rely on the trees. When I do look at the trees at all, I strongly vet the sources. I've had to untangle more than one mess! I finally turned off the notifications there for family tree hints
