I have a rather complex puzzle re. my ggg-grandparents Charles Garlick and his wife Jane. Perhaps some of you kind people with access to paid sites can help me with it!

Hopefully I have summarized the situation in their profiles, but, briefly I am trying to find out if Charles Garlick of Kenilworth (Garlick489) and Charles Garlick of Birmingham (Garlick-600) could be the same person. And, thereby, if Jane the husband of Charles of Kenilworth (Unknown-464260) is the same person as Jane Oliver Line (Line-428).

I only have access to online transcriptions at the moment - so one thing that would help is to find out the occupation of Charles Garlick of Birmingham (Garlick-600) from his marriage. If he is not an agricultural labourer like Charles of Kenilworth that would tend to rule out an identity!

Of course, if someone could also find actual evidence of another wedding in Warwickshire (near Kenilworth) between Charles Garlick and Jane, in the period 1818-1828, that would be great!

Or even a wedding in Pimlico/Chelsea, where Jane the wife of Charles claimed to be born in a couple of censuses (seems oddly specific if it wasn't true!).

Thanks very much in advance!

Tried using the Connection Finder and did not find a relationship. Maybe it needs to go back further in generations to show a relationship. It could also be that there is no relationship.

They are 2 different men. One was born abt 1801 Oldham, Lancashire, England. Died in Oldham, Lancashire, England in 1867. The other was born abt 1810 in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England.
Thanks, but I think it is more likely that the first of those Charles Garlicks married in Warrington, Lancashire in 1834

I have had a look at the marriage record for Charles Garlick (Garlick-601) and Jane Oliver Line (Line-428) and it does not appear to me to have any additional information that might help. You can see a free-to-view image of it at https://www.ancestry.co.uk/sharing/16706641?h=14e182

What might help is the fact that among the children of Jane (Unknown-464260) are Fanny (born 1837), Henry (born 1839), Ellen (born 1841) and Mark (born 1843). The GRO index (https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp) shows that their mother's maiden name was Line:

GARLICK, FANNY    LINE

GRO Reference: 1837  D Quarter in OF WARWICK UNION  Volume 16  Page 394

GARLICK, HENRY    LINE

GRO Reference: 1839  D Quarter in WARWICK UNION  Volume 16  Page 468

GARLICK, ELLEN    LINE

GRO Reference: 1841  S Quarter in WARWICK UNION  Volume 16  Page 465

GARLICK, MARK    LINE

GRO Reference: 1843  S Quarter in WARWICK UNION  Volume 16  Page 499

That shows that Jane (Unknown-464260) is in fact Jane Line, so may well be the same person as Jane Oliver Line (Line-428).

I also noticed that on the profile for Jane (Unknown-464260) you refer to the baptism record for Henry Waterloo Line. You can see a free-to view image of that baptism record at https://www.ancestry.co.uk/sharing/16706783?h=11c75c. That says that Henry's father Edward was a Sergeant in the Coldstream Guards, which would both explain Henry's unusual middle name and also why the family may have moved about quite a lot.

Thanks so much, Paul!

That is a lot of really helpful information - I have always wondered/suspected that Jane was Jane Oliver Line - this appears to confirm it.

Plus I also learned that the GRO index has extra info in it that does not seem to be available on Familysearch.
