Civil War Regimental Flag

Hi,

Many of my ancestors were in the 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry during the Civil War. I did not see this flag in the list of flags we currently have on the Flags page.

Here is a photo of the actual flag

http://www.pacivilwarflags.org/regiments/indivRegiment.cfm?group=151-200&reg=14th%20Cavalry,%20(159th%20Regiment)

But I don't know how/where to find a graphic representation.  And, once we have one, I'd like to see it added to the Flags Category.

How do I proceed?

Thanks!

You want to search around WikiTree to see if there is a page that holds Regimental Flags and if there is, you should upload the photo to there.  If not, you might consider creating a free space page.  Please post if you are able to accomplish this or not and if you can't figure it out, we can walk you through the steps.  I believe this is the correct category page for the unit and I don't see that it has its own page.

To create a page, go to the top right of your screen and click "add" and then "new thing."  Then for the name of the space page, and for the name, I'd name it:

14th Pennsylvania Cavalry

Give it a tag "Civil War" and maybe put in some text paraphrased from Wikipedia or a similar site (include a source link).  Then upload the photo to that page.  Once you have the photo uploaded, you can link it on the flags page/categories.

You should see what their site's TOS says about using their photos, which may be subject to copyright. You can check wikimedia commons for a copyright-free photo and then upload that. I just checked Library of Congress and there's nothing there for that regiment (photos anyway.)

What's a TOS?

tx

Terms of Service

Or, in their case, "Photographic Rights."  On that page, they specifically prohibit reproduction for commercial uses but give a waiver for Fair Use.  Sharing on WikiTree should be covered under fair use.

By the way, to link photos in a post, see:  How to add a photo to a G2G post.
