by the way - the wiki-tree groups sound more and more like work tasks and I thoroughly enjoy retirement !!

I fear many people confuse Google Groups, which as Ros pointed out is really just a mailing list, and Google+, which was a social media platform that no longer exists. You don't even need a Google account to join a Google group mailing list.

The Ireland/Irish Roots Google Group is used to communicate with project members about the project's progress.  We're all volunteers here.  Some have more time to offer than others. Any and all contributions are appreciated.

I know exactly what google groups are and I still exercise my free choice not to participate in them.  I will spare you my reasons - they really don't matter.

I don't understand why people seem to feel a need to explain anything about google groups (or WikiTree projects choice to use them for communication among project members) to someone who has made a very simple statement to the effect that she has chosen not to participate in them.  Please, folks - just respect Sheila's choice without trying to persuade her otherwise.

They do it because there are people here who are not as computer literate as you (or I). It's just trying to clear up any possible confusion.

I don't see a need to explain to people how WikiTree works, because it's obvious to me. But I have a technical background, whereas others do not. So, other people need to have explanations as to how WikiTree works.

It's the same idea.
