The Scotland Project covers profiles for everyone born in what we now know as Scotland from the earliest times until today,

See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scotland  for details.

The Project is organised into teams and the main requirement for membership in the Scotland Project is that you join a team and our google group.

The Teams are :-

  • County Teams: There is a team for each of the historic counties of Scotland. If your ancestors come from a particular area, or you have interest in a particular county, then one of these teams might be the right ones for you.
  • Profile Improvements Teams: We also have teams for each area of profile improvement, from Sourcerers to Data Doctors to the Categories Team. These are often in conjunction with the functional associated projects. These teams are great for people wanting to do one aspect of work across the whole of Scotland.
  • Managed Profiles Team: This team is for people who are interested in carrying out specialist work on some of our "Flagship Profiles" for Scotland. Members of this team must have the pre-1500 badge.

If you would like to join the Project then we would love to have you.  Please post an Answer below.

The Scotland Project is closely aligned with the Scottish Clans  Project.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scottish_Clans

To join that project please post an Answer below.

If you are already a UK badge holder please do not post below but wait till you are contacted by Susie McLeod who will pass your name on to each Countries Membership Team to take forward - Thanks for your co-operation and patience.

i have always had an interest in all things Scotland and would like to join the group to search my roots.  My grandparents name were McDanel and their ancestors emigrated from Scotland in the 1700's.  Supposedly I had a distant relative that went with Cromwell from Scotland to Ireland.  It has been noted that we are part of the McClaren clan and I would like to look into that more extensively.
Not sure if this is still open. I'm just joining, but have a lot of interest in my Scottish heritage. I think I have several lines headed that direction.
Hi Carson

I'll contact you by PM to take this forward.

Amy Gilpin
I would like to be added to the Scotland Project. I have ancesters in the Ayreshire and Lanarkshire areas.
Hi Jan!  I'll contact you by PM to take this forward.

This is an answer and reply to my super late response to the clan project moving. I am a descendant of the Armstrong clan from Liddesdale, Scotland and Northern Ireland. I would like to continue being a part of the clans project, submitting my Armstrong family information and any other helpful information as best as I can present.

Thanks and Cheers!
Hi Sarah

I'll have Jackie contact you to take this forward.
Hi, I would like to join the Scotland's project team.

Through my ancestor Lucretia Boyd dau of Robert Boyd 2nd of Trochrig (Boyd - 13709). It seems I have links back to the Lords Boyd of Kilmarnock, Sir Robert Colville of Ochiltree, Gilbert Kennedy of Denure 1st Lord Kennedy, Alexander Gordon Earl of Huntly, Sir Robert Chalmers of Gadrith, Sir Hugh Campbell of Loudon and John Cunningham 4th lord Caprington.

This is a new discovery to me and I have much work to do but am unable to link up my Robert to existing trees as I am not yet pre 1500 certified.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Kerry in Brissy

I’d like to be on the Kincardineshire team and the Perthshire team.

Hi Barry,   I'll contact you direct to advise how this will be taken forward.
I'm very interested in Kincardineshire!. This is where the families took a stand against Rome. I would be so excited to be part of exploring their clans, their loyalties, their concerns and what would motivate them to leave their lands to travel to Georgia? Absolutely fascinating!
Hi Amanda. Thanks for your interest in the Scotland Project.

I have great personal interests in my families Scottish heritage.

I can directly trace my families “roots” to he Rothes area, many of my direct ancestors come from within a 100 km radius.

Using retail ancestry programs I have a high level of traceability back to mid 1600’s.

After three years' of trying I so need to trace my third great grandmother's line. She was Christiana Munro (b. abt 1816), parents John and Margaret. Christy emigrated to Sydney in 1839. HELP! I think Ross-Shire group would be best.

I have DNA matches on Ancestry and gedmatch to many people whose pedigree traces back to Scotland -- places like Inverness, Nairn, Cromarty, Kiltarlity, etc. I haven't been able to find the line of descent to me, even using the newest DNA tools at ancestry. I'd like to join the Scotland project to flesh out these connections.
by Living Oney G2G Crew (560 points)
Hi Walter and thanks for your interest in the Scotland Project.

I'll contact you direct to take this forward.
I too have done the Ancestry DNA testing and my DNA is 95% total from area of Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Northwestern Europe, with a touch of Germanic Europe (4% +-).  I have traced my ancestry here in the states to pre-revolutionary war; w/ a number of Gordons and clan names show up before the war.

As I prepare to purchase  overseas databases a resource such as this would be helpful.  With a vast majority of the records destroyed or history rewritten by the English; this group could provide a excellent knowledge base.  So tired of fake databases, links and such by people trying to create a fake ancestry.  My favorite to date was Electra Matthews born in early 1700's, almost broke out laughing; then saddened because it was so pathetic.
Hi Gregory,  are you interested in joining the Scotland Project - or Ireland or Wales ?
Scotland would b of the most benefit right now.  Parts of my tree I've traced back 2 > 1500's.  From what I have discovered some of this stuff is BS.  People trying 2 "create" genology" 4 what ever reasons. Being a American titles & relationships r confusing 2 me.  Looking 2 find informed honest colaborators

Gregory
Thanks Gregory.   I'll contact you direct to take this forward.
