Middle name c. 1800- maybe a helpful hint?

+2 votes
This is prompted by another current thread about middle name usage, but I didn't want to hijack that thread so I thought I'd make a separate post.  I'm researching a possible relative, Anna Sophia Alexander Robertson, born 1800 (baptism record) or 1801 (gravestone) in Philadelphia.  She married William Young Heberton.  Her baptism record lists her as Anna Alexander Robertson, daughter of James Robertson.  Her gravestone lists her as Anna Sophia Alexander Robertson Heberton.  Now I'm looking for her mother and possible siblings.  So... about all those middle names.

1.  When would Sophia have been added?  Could it be a confirmation name?  Would there be records I could look for?  (I know the family was associated with the Presbyterian churches in Philadelphia.)

2.  Is it likely that Alexander is a family name, and if so is it likely to be on her mother's side?  Mother's surname seems possible, but are there other possibilities?  (I know that William Young Heberton's paternal grandmother's surname was Young; his older brother has their mother's surname as a middle name.)

If it helps, the Hebertons originally came from Scotland; don't know about the Robertsons but Scotland/England seem likely.

The baptismal certificate would be the first in line as a primary source for the time being. That may be offset if a birth certificate is located.

Yeah, that's all I've got for the moment.  I'm hoping the middle names might give me some hints.
