How do I find an old profile that seems to no longer exist?

I previously noted done this reference to go back to.  Walter COATE  http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Coate-165

I now find the profile is missing.  Would it have been merged with another?  If so, I would have thought I would have been redirected.  If not, where has it gone?  Is there a way to find it?

That is odd. I've never seen that error message before. I tried Coat-165, too, thinking that was what you might be seeking and got them same message.
AND there are 194 Coates profiles so there should have been a 165.
For the techies....Coate-165 through Coate-168 are missing, it isn't just one profile.
Any chance it was this one?

Coate-466 was merged into Coate-90, Coate-90 was merged into Coate-88.  Still no sign of Coate-165, though,

No.  I'm pretty sure it may have had an Australian connection.  But can't be sure altogether.

A merge should not result in a profile missing as it 'simply' creates a redirect to the new profile number. I have never changed a Last Name at Birth but I would expect it to also redirect to the new profile.

I imagine this error might happen in the case of a profile that was deleted by the sysops either due to a privacy violation or if a gedcom import was requested to be deleted within the first day.

Perhaps it was deleted from the gedcom.  The profile manager I was liaising with at the time also seems to have removed himself from wikitree.  However, we did have discussing on and off over a couple of weeks, so that doesn't seem to be likely either.

I had thought possibly Australian but in re reading my email trail, more likely to have been from Somerset Uk.

If the profile manager has removed himself from WikiTree, it's possible that any profiles he had set to private settings were deleted.

I don't think it would have been private as I was able to view it.  I don't recall any trusted list requests with this one.

Buisson-35 was merged into Bisson-141 along with a name change: and now the 'old' link takes you to a Page with Error 404 while this is not displaying the same error it does indicate something is going awry with the namechange/merge thing.  Sorry this doesn't help you find your Coate-165, but maybe it might help the Wikitree amazing techo wizards narrow down the issue... Coate surname may have been changed to Coat | Coates etc and merged at the same time?

Thanks anyway. It continues to be a mystery!
Veronica, I've emailed staff requesting they come over here and render a verdict.
It's been deleted.  We just don't know by who. That isn't tracked. One reason members are discouraged from deleting profiles.  It's possible when the profile manager left WikiTree he changed some of his profiles' privacy settings before leaving and this is one of those profiles so it was deleted.  There's no way to know for sure.

P.S. I tested Buisson-35 and it comes up as Bisson-141.
well heck, I didn't even know it was technically possible (except by admin/tech staff).
