Should Martin's children get Patronymics or the Van Bergen last name? [closed]

Marten Gerritse van Bergen was created with patronymics

He has 5 children I want to add to the profile but the Year Books of the Holland Society do not categorically show the last name at birth for the children at baptism (I would presume they all fell under "Martens / or / Martensz/ or a form of that patronymic).

  1. Garret Martensz van Bergen b. 1687
  2. Myndert Martensz van Bergen b. 1689
  3. Marten Martensz van Bergen b. 1692
  4. Pieter Martensz van Bergen b.1694
  5. Johannes Martensz van Bergen b.1695

Each child appears later - by at least 1711 (Garret married as "Garret van Bergen

Which LNAB should I use for the children when they are entered and linked to Marten?

Is there any evidence that Marten came from Bergen, Norway, rather than Bergen, Nederland?  That might help figure out if patronymics or a family name should be used for LNAB.

There is evidence that Marten did come from Norway.

Ellen helped me out yesterday and pointed me back to the NNS style guide at the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:New_Netherland_Settlers#Last_Name_at_Birth_.28LNAB.29 which follows a particular order of preference in establishing last name at birth:

The order of preference for the LNAB of New Netherland profiles:

  1. Signature (it must be in an image) - The reasoning for this is that primary sources are rare in the New Netherland. When a signature is discovered, it is likely the only primary account of a name we will discover.
  2. Father's last name on baptism record (unless the father has a patronymic, in which case other records are consulted to find a last name that is verified to have been used by or for the person of interest)
  3. Marriage record
  4. Children's baptism records
  5. Court documents
In this case since #1 and #2 aren't able to establish the last name I'm going to defer to #3 which is the Last Name he has on the marriage record "Van Bergen" (at least for Gerrit - my ancestor - and we'll see what other records I find for the siblings)
