I’m looking to see if I’ve got relatives in this. But I don’t know how.

To search, go to ʻFindʻ on the drop down menu, upper right. Click on Search. You will get a screen that lets you input the name and known details about a person you would like to find.

You will not have much luck looking for living people, as the profiles are hidden.

As others have said, start with grandparents or farther back, and best to start looking for someone for whom you have some details.

Start with a simple name search. Then you can drill down as far as dates/places to see if you have a match. Do you have a tree posted somewhere else that we could look at for you?

I'd start with your grandparents. Anything more recent will probably be hidden as private profiles. If you run a search for a common name, scroll down the results page, and you can put in years and places so limit the search in a helpful way.

I tried starting with my parents. However, I discovered that most of my family through the third great grandparents had not been entered. If you already have constructed a  tree, you could try the backward approach. For example, if you have any notables, they are likely to be on WikiTree already, then you can follow down that line as far as it leads to your family and enter the rest.

When I first started with the forward method I accidentally created duplicate profiles, and then I had to request merges. The backward method from an ancestor already on Wikitree prevents this.
