Will you join us?

Team Tennessee Volunteers come here to chat about the 2019 Connct-a-Thon.This will be where you can communicate with each other throughout the 2019 Connect-a-Thon.  Cheer each other one, post any questions you have, etc.

It would be great if everyone would post an answer and maybe introduce yourselves a bit and share what you're intending to work on.

This post is where we can introduce ourselves, post questions, come up with suggestions, and keep track of what we are doing. I have place a tab on the spreadsheet I update which will give us access to a live chat if that is something we want to do. I can put any links to areas on this tab to make it easier for us to find what we are looking for.

Our goal for the Connect-a-Thon is to decrease the number of profiles that are not connected to our big tree by spending 72 hours adding new (and sourced!) profiles to already existing ones.
The focus will be on adding family members to existing profiles. One point will be awarded for each sourced profile that is added as a relative of an existing profile (as opposed to counting connections to the global tree …)
To register, just click the ANSWER button and say "Sign me up!" or whatever and include a few words about your location and/or genealogical interests. This will help us assign you to a team. If you already know what team you'd like to be on, say that. The current teams are listed here. There are a few new ones and more may be added.

Registration is now open for our 2019 Connect-a-Thon! This is our first annual Connect-a-Thon. Our goal is to decrease the number of profiles that are not connected to our big tree by adding relatives to existing profiles.

The event will start on Friday, July 12, at 8 AM (EDT) and run until Monday, July 15, at 8 AM (EDT).

To register, just click the ANSWER button and say "Sign me up!" or whatever and include a few words about your location and/or genealogical interests. This will help us assign you to a team. If you already know what team you'd like to be on, say that. The current teams are listed here. There are a few new ones and more may be added.

Our marathon events (Spring Clean-a-Thon, Source-a-Thon, and Scan-a-Thon) have been fun and very productive for our mission, so we are adding one more event to round out the year: the Connect-a-Thon.

You need to register at this link:https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/846442/have-you-registered-for-the-2019-connect-a-thon-yet?start=0#a_list_title in advance.

After you post, we will award you the participant badge.

To participate you need to be a WikiTree member who has signed the Honor Code. If you're not already a member, login as a Guest now. You'll be invited to "volunteer" to help grow WikiTree. There are a few steps involved, but it's all just about verifying that you understand what WikiTree is about.

The cut-off date for registering is midnight on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.

Since tracking connections is somewhat complex, for this challenge we are just counting the number of profiles you add to existing profiles. Often these will be "collateral" relatives that members neglected to add when adding their family tree. Each relative you add increases the chance that a tree will intertwine with our global tree.

If you have Connect-a-Thon questions, please post them in G2G (discussion thread coming soon).

Linda, sign me up for Team Tennessee. I will be adding Pierce and Beeler profiles that lived in East Tennessee to my existing tree and hope to connect some profiles that are not connected.

This might be a good team for me. I have some DNA matches in Meigs County, Tennesse on my father's side but have not figured out how it connects to me yet. I also have some folks on my mother's side in Tennessee. I could see if I can fill in missing people in existing trees, maybe? First timer on the connect-a-thon, so bear with me if I don't understand.

just click the
ANSWER button and say "Sign me up!" or whatever and include a few words about your location and/or genealogical interests. Also you need to say you want on Team Tennessee Volunteers team.

Familysearch.org, which is free has a plethora of Tennessee records including

Tennessee Deaths, 1914-1966 and Tennessee Marriages, 1796-1950.

You will need to go ahead and sign up for a free account.
The easiest way to find these data bases is to sign-in, go to the top of the page, Click "Search".
Click "Records"
Scroll to the bottom of the page and on the right lower corner is "Find A Collection"
Type: Tennessee in the search box and all the Tennessee records will populate.
If you are searching for census records, Type, "United States Census" in the box and all of the U.S. Census Records will populate. Just select the year you need.
Hope this is helpful.

Glad to be here; I've already registered. I currently live in Florida, but that is always subject to change. I lived in Tennessee in the 1960s and enjoyed the state. I still remember the 98 degree weather with 100% humidity and the 3 foot thunderstorms all up & down the street. I will be adding to my husband James Hendricks' line starting in Indiana but going south. The other line I am always adding is Rowleys. Plus I've been making a list of some profiles that need collateral relatives added.
