Is there a way to link to other sections (such as a See Also section) from within a profile's bio?

I would like to add a link to the See Also section regarding further links on The 852d and Project Nike. I'm guessing there is a way to do it but I am new here and still learning. Thanks!

You can link directly to any heading by adding a hash mark (#) and the heading text to the profile link.  For instance, you could bypass all the profile information and go directly to the biography text using:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Schmidt-11048#Biography

or go directly to the Sources section using:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Schmidt-11048#Sources

It gets a bit tricky if your headings have spaces between words; you have to replace each space character with the three-character code "%20" (without the quote marks, of course.)

Edit:  The information about replacing spaces with "%20" is incorrect.  If your link-target headings or subheadings have spaces, replace all space characters, " ", with underscore characters, "_".  See the example in the comments below; the underscore is difficult to see because whole links are displayed in an underlined font.

Your suggestion is what I am looking to do, however, I am currently having issues getting it to work. This is the link I have currently but it is just taking me to the top of the page. Any ideas?

See also: should not be a heading or subheading.

However, a subheading can be added below it, then linked as Erik states.

The subheading would look like the following text:

===Project Nike===

Then the biography text would be linked via an inline citation:

[[Schmidt-11048#Project_Nike|Project Nike]]

You can, of course, use any wording for your subheading.

edit: can also be done without using inline citation; just link directly to the Project Nike text in the biography.

If I am reading your question correctly, you want to create anchor tags to link wording in your text, such as 852nd AAA to the links you have created in the "See also:" section. Is that right? It can certainly be done and I gave you a hint, they are called anchor tags. However, they are not recommended for use in profiles. One of the goals of WikiTree is to make all the profiles collaborative and accessible to everyone. Some coding is fairly easy, but when you start using anchor tags, it is getting considerably more complicated and there is much more room for typos and other errors. You could use them on your own profile, and possibly free spaces, but you shouldn't use them on people profiles.

A good solution, at least I think it is a good solution, is to create simple hyperlinks directly from your text to off-site urls where one could read more about the subject. You could have the links in-line in the biography section as well as list them at the bottom, as you have already done, in the "See also:" section.

If you want to allow viewers to go to the Wikipedia page for Project Nike, you can turn the biography text Project Nike into an external link:

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Nike Project Nike]

or an internal-style link:

[[wikipedia:Project_Nike|Project Nike]]

Otherwise, you can simply use an inline citation to cite your source!

This is how a table of contents works.  Each item in the list is a link to a section.  So just Copy the link to the section you want

Eg go to the Project Nike page, and use your browser's "Copy link" or "Copy shortcut" function on the "See also" item in the Contents table.

This method is also very useful on sites like Medlands, ThePeerage.com and Tudor Place, where the pages are long.  To link to a paragraph, find a link to the paragraph and Copy it.  Eg follow the link to the wife, and then Copy the link back to the husband.

Note the matching of links and anchors is done in the browser, and the browser doesn't know any site conventions, eg it won't treat spaces and underscores as equivalent.  On the Project Nike page, the anchor has been created as See_also with an underscore, so that's how you have to link to it.  A space or a %20 won't work.

If you want the See Also to be linked from the automatic List of Contents at the top, all you have to do is make it a heading, using two ==either side==

or a subheading, using three ===either side===

or a subsubheading, using four ====either side====

Isn't the advice to use See also as a heading somewhat counter to the Proper Order guidelines?

Using a subheading for Project Nike, placed below the See also: text, would be more appropriate, in my interpretation. Then linking the biography text, Project Nike, to that subheading.
