Inquiry#2 on my 2nd Great grandfather Adam Singleton

Question

My second great grandfather Adam Singleton can be found with his wife Rachel Davis in a 1910 census for privateer township sumter south carolina  . I have a question regarding both.  Rachels dad was a soldier from minnesota who fought under sherman in 1865 , the yr she was born. He mustered in at fort snelling minnesota. And his identity remains unknown .

Adam singleton , born 1850 in south carolina may have been the grandson of a man named joseph solomon singleton whos origins are from the southwest.  Im not sure if it was josephs son prosper singleton or joseph , but one of them was married to a woman named begay.  

Adam descended from southwestern tribes.  While rachels father may have been sioux from minnesota.   But both end up in south carolina around the tail end of the civil war.  If anyone can look into this id appreciate it

Sidenote : strangely on a death certificate for one of Rachels daugters Sallie edwards.  Rachel is written in as " rachel james "  Davis or james "?   Its creating problems for me finding out the identity of " unknown soldier " from minnesota

Yes rachels maiden name was davis   and im almost certain it was her mother that carried the last name of davis and not  her father   .  Im trying to use both my dna matches combined with the paper trail to try to reconstruct the story  . But my detective skills are limited   its gonna take a master to crack this case wide open.  Im decent but not good
