Just bringing you a "best wishes for lots of fun" for the 'thon from the Wizards of Aus (aka Team Australia), now that it's only a matter of hours away!  Hoping you are all as excited as we!

Just got back from the trip up to feed my feral cats and we've moved up a spot!

Man, Randall, you are kicking behind and will be passing Abby soon. Awesome!!!

Go team!!
Hi Team,  I just finished my first THON and wanted to tell you all that I really enjoyed it.  I was getting so frustrated with minimized windows and switching back and forth from my other trees that I attached the spare TV monitor to my laptop and set it up so I could open my resources on there and work on entering profiles on the laptop....boy did that work great.  I created new profiles for extended family members on my watchlist hoping to run into some connections but I only found one.  I learned so much about how to navigate WikiTree and I don't feel so intimidated with it anymore.  Still need to get the hang of adding sources after creating a profile.   There are so many help pages that I will have to take time to read and learn.  Great job to the team....we kicked butt even if we were a small team.   Thanks Lori for allowing me to be on Team Missouri.
Glad you enjoyed it Karen! Glad to have you as part of the team. You did a great job for your first one. Hope to have you and everyone else back in the Fall for the Source-a-thon!!

It was awesome everyone thanks for participating, all the great work and congratulations from team Flying Dutchmen (and women) - Vliegende Hollanders  !

Enjoy some well deserved sleep or rest, have a wonderful week and hope to see you all again next thon ! laugh

Karen, I also enjoyed my first, Thon. Wasn’t it a great one
It sure was Bryan,   I'm looking forward to the Source-a-Thon....not looking forward to a weekend with little sleep....LOL

Hi Lori and Team Missouri,

I am not completely sure what we are supposed to be doing for this connect-a-thon. Any tips or suggestions from anyone is welcomed.

Thank you!

Erin

Hi Erin, from what I understand, create new sourced profiles. Of course the ultimate goal is to have every profile connected to another. But from what I’ve read unconnected are fine because eventually they will be connected. I posted a link on the Team Missouri web page right below the team list. If you still have questions, let me know.

Hey hey, Team Missouri!

We're less than 24 hours away from our first ever Connect-a-thon. Hope you've been planning your strategy for the weekend! No? I usually don't either! However, this time I'm actually going into this having prepped for it and planned what I'm going to work on. We'll see how that works for me. LOL

Feel free to chat or ask questions! I'm looking forward to working with all of your this weekend!

Just for clarity, it appears that the scoring will be automatically tracked based on your ID similar to the scan-a-thon but new profiles vs new images.  No need to mess with the tracking system.  Is this correct?  I haven't seen it explicitly stated.  Thanks.

answered in the email tonight.  nm.  :)
Good. And as I understand it just adding a profile doesn’t count. You have to be adding a profile via a link on an existing profile, like “add spouse” or sibling, parent, etc. That’s how they’re tracking it by the statement that gets generated in the live feed.

If you haven’t already, investigate this helpful tutorial, by Mindy Silva. I think the Missing Links tool mentioned there may be the most helpful. At first I was cleaning up profiles cause I didn’t want them to have missing links. Although this is a great tool to find if you can clean up profiles, I now realize how to make better use of it for the event

1. Search yourself (or maybe someone closer to the edge of your tree.

2. Look for father or mother set to false

3. Look for children or spouse set to 0.

4. (Optional) If they legitimately have no kids check no more children. If it is known that they were never married, you can add a spouse. On the bottom of the spouse add page there’s a button to declare that the person has no spouse

I got a jump on adding things this morning, but the kids are hungry so off to make pancakes :-) I'll be back later- good luck team!

Send some of those my way! I'm starving.
Wow Abby! Even with the break to cook breakfast you're still kicking butt! Awesome!!
I need to go make some cookies now, so it should slow again. Trying to do what I can before I have to be gone this afternoon. Go Team!

Does anyone know if connecting existing profiles counts?  I am finding profiles that have existing profiles for children and spouses.  When I go to build them, I find it is already existing so I do the action to connect them as suggested.  I presume this counts since I found them by attempting to create them.
by Bryan Shannon G2G6 Mach 1 (15.9k points)
As I understand it, they don't count. I understood it to be ADDED not CONNECTED earns points. Even seen this referred to as an "Add-a-thon".

I've made a number of connections to existing profiles as well.

Well - sad

Actually, they might. The system is looking at "added XX to", which would come up if you connect two profiles together that already existed. Whether it does or not, though, it's awesome and the point of the Connect-a-Thon: filling in gaps so new connections can be made.
I get excited when I connect to an existing profile whether it counts or not. That's kinda the point in doing this I thought.

The suggestion below does not work.

Ok, here is the trick for that which I think just might get us more points.

When you go to add someone, such as I just added [[Westendorf-257|Joachim Christian Westendorf]] as father for [[Westendorf-87|Friedrich Heinrich Westendorf]].

Instead of clicking "Set as Father"  I checked the box and scrolled down and clicked Add (which is the first time I did it this way for these kinds of revelations)

In my feed, this shows as an add, but when I used "set as {relations}" for similar situations, they have not shown added.

Not sure if that counts, but worth a shot.

I agree Lori.  I just check the list and none of my actions have worked today, even when I created a new profile and added it.  Can you see if there is something amiss with my connection to the project?

(Edited to add: I was looking at the wrong list or something cause all mine are counting :) )

You show up in the team feed. It just may be the way you're going about things? I always make sure I'm in a profile and I click 'add spouse", "add child", "add sibling", etc.

That is what I have done and the 14 that I would hope show up do in fact show up, so that is great news. Thank you Lori Zukerman
Great!!!

I saw you'd stopped and hoped you hadn't gotten discouraged.

This is the feed for the Connect-a-thon to help you see what counts.

Looks like we're all really hard at work! Don't know about the rest of you but I'm adding family lines. There's so much intermarrying between my Becketts and Wallingfords that my head hurts trying to get it all straight. My tree doesn't spread out and fork, it's all gnarled up!! At least it's fairly well back in time. Back then it wasn't unusual for folks to marry first or second cousins. It does make researching the tree interesting though!

The Nor"Easters would like to offer congratulations on weathering the Connect-A-Thon. It was a big success adding many profiles to the tree and we had lots of fun. We also now have a huge spotify playlist to listen too while working on WikiTree. We were glad to have your team onboard in the effort.

Thanks to you all we placed 12th overall which I think is fantastic! I hope I see you all again in the Fall for the Source-a-thon, my personal favorite.

Well, darn it, I just found out we had a team chat going the whole time. Anyway, great effort, Team Missouri! 12th place among this field of teams was nothing to sneeze at. And, in the end, we're all winners for the growth of our one world tree. Looking forward to Source-a-thon in the fall!
by Jer Wilcoxen G2G6 Mach 2 (23.8k points)
Jer, we always have a chat going. LOL I even dropped by everyone's profile ahead of time and posted links to the Team & chat pages.

Hope to have you back on the team in the Fall. Can't wait for the Source-a-thon!!
Yeah, I saw that about an hour after I commented. About an hour after that I checked my email and saw it there. *facepalm*

I hope to make the fall source-a-thon, but I may be on vacation (Italy-Croatia-Greece); depends on the dates.
