I uploaded a profile in June 2015. Someone merged into one made later.

I uploaded a profile 4 years ago. It had his surname spelled correctly. The spelling is his birth surname, spelling same as his father's, and same as in official death records (death cert & probate for children).

A person deleted everything in my profile, made another profile, but with different (and incorrect) spelling of surname a few months later. She then merged my older shell into her newer one. This is the kind of thing here that ticks me off. I only found it accidentally (long story...)

I even thanked the person when she cleaned up my work years ago. I wish I could unthank her. Never knew she would eliminate my work and steal the credit.

Things like this do happen from time to time but since the profile has been orphaned, you can adopt it and fix any problems such as the LNAB. Then make sure the sources are there and add a == Research Notes == section pointing out that the name should not be changed. This does assume that there isn't an earlier primary source that uses a different name. Death certificates and probate could have a different name than the birth certificate.

I did some looking and there are a number of issues with the profile. There is a source for a marriage license that is not a very good one but I did track down docket #23035 in Allegheny county and it isn't for the people in the profile. The info in the source may be correct but it isn't in a form that is really useful.

The Census records may or may not be for him but is possible.

Sorry for all the hubbub. I think i have it straightened out. I am not well and should not be posting when I am off.
No worries, Lincoln.  I hope you get to feeling better.

Hi Lincoln,  sorry that happened. You can retrieve the info you originally had through the changes log.

This might help

You get 30 days to approve or reject a merge proposal, before it is automatically approved so the best way to avoid unwanted merges is to be on the ball with those merge proposals, involve yourself and have a dialogue with the manager of the other profile before the 30 days are up.

It appears that Lincoln had orphaned the profile, because the other PM had already adopted it prior to doing the merge.   So he wouldn't have been notified of the merge proposal, or had the authority to reject it.
There never was a merge proposal.  They just adopted the profile and immediately lnabbed it.  It shows as a merge in the log, but the profile "merged into" was 2 seconds old and completely blank.
