Changing Last names for males gives Anonymous

Question

I went to see about adding a source to John Wagner's profile and found out someone had but Wagner in for his Current Last Name.  When I tried to delete it, it automatically when to Anonymous,  Is this what is supposed to happen?

I sent a message to the profile manager to see if they could delete without getting Anonymous.

Yes, David, you could check the changes tab to see a history of the profile, which gives clues. Almost all of this family's profiles had a 4-person trusted list, all inactive members (or inactive for many years). Most of the profiles were not open privacy, had several errors (misspelled places, all caps places, etc.) It's going to take me all summer to get through them. It's best to just shoot me a quick private message if you have a question. :-) I appreciate the help though!

I think the box cannot be left empty. If his last name was Wagner at death Wagner should be in the current last name box.

Only the profile manager can change the Last Name at Birth (LNAB).

I wouldn't change anything until sources are added.  Without sources, how do you know his name is not John Wagner?  How do you know whether it is the same person you are thinking about?

This profile was one I inherited when a member passed away. Many of this former PM's profiles had LNABs in all caps. I am slowly working my way through hundreds of profiles, finding sources, changing LNAB to the correct case, etc. I was waiting on this one to find sources before changing the LNAB, but now I have gone ahead and corrected that.

Yes, you have to be the PM to edit LNAB.

The Current Last Name field will automatically populate the surname listed in the Last Name at Birth field unless it has another surname entered when the profile is created.
