Can I merge/join/clean existing entries?

+2 votes
I've discovered that there are several persons in the WikiTree that have duplicates, or even more 'clones'. Is it possible for me to merge these based on the information I have? In the cases I've found I know from church records etc what is right and wrong.

Do I join some special team of 'fixers', or can I send in suggestions on what to do?

I would very much like to help to keep the tree correct!

You should probably read the different help topics on Merging Profiles prior to doing anything with any profiles.

In some instances you need to contact the Profile manager directly for permission before initiating a merge.

Some times a historically significant ancestor is 'locked' so a supervisor makes those decisions.

Some profiles need to be adopted before you can merge them.

Great answer, Chris!

Just a couple things to add/clarify: You don't need to contact the Profile Manager prior to initiating a merge, you just need their help to actually complete it. And for locked profiles, as of now you can still merge duplicates into them. You just can't merge them into other profiles.
Lianne Thanks for clarifying - I sometimes get the terminolgy/semantics mixed up in my head!  Chris
