Found something interesting while indexing for family search.

Here's something random that I ran across while reviewing cemetery records for Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland for family search.

In this page that I am reviewing there is the usual gambit of people you'd expect to find buried in 1887 which is the year that I am working, a still birth, an unknown man, etc.  But one caught my attention.

Eustace Tenor, Aged 17, years, 11 months, 10 days, Born in Alabama.  Died January  26 1887 of a Gunshot Wound.

His last name could be Trevor.

I find myself wondering first why if he died in January, he was being buried in June.

I looked him up and couldn't find him on any published family trees an ancestry.  But I couldn't help but wonder who he was and why he got shot to death at the age of 17.  Was it an accident, a murder?  I'm not related in any way, but it's just one of those questions that run across your mind that you know will never be answered.

All I can say is I hope he rests in peace.

Just a thought, maybe they didn't find the poor young man's body for months?  I also index what I see but I'll bet it was a transcription error.  Still, I'm with you, the things I see indexing and reviewing make me pause...
He also could have been buried as unidentified, but later the family found and he was re-interred in June?

I guess Oakland is California?

I had relations that died in Connecticut during the winter. They were not buried until Spring when the ground thawed.

Shorthand - Jan vs Jun?

the rest of the entries are clearly written as June, that is the only one that reads Jan.

My first thought -- he went somewhere remote to kill himself, and the body wasn't found for some time.
