Catherine married a Swingle.  Eve's maiden name is Shaaffer.  Her father should be a Shaffer

Do you have any other info to help narrow down the search options? Like dates?

Looks like Eve was named after her grandmother Mary Shaffer.

Description:
The Family Data Collection - Individual Records database was created while gathering genealogical data for use in the study of human genetics and disease.

I saved the record on ancestry if you would like it let me know. It has both of John's parents. Also looks like the "S" in john's middle name is Shaffer from some of the trees I saw.

Hoping only to be helpful, The Edmund West collections are made up of data from unnamed sources. The information was gathered, but then rejected for use in a scientific stufdy.

Here is the link to Ancestry.com's description: http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=4725

Ancestry includes this comment, "Use this database as a finding tool, just as you would any other secondary source. When you find the name of an ancestor listed, confirm the facts in original sources, such as birth, marriage, and death records, church records, census enumerations, and probate records for the place where the even took place."
This corresponds with the information I have.  Catherine Shorter is not her mother.
