This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is people who died in July.

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

Ernest Miller Hemingway, the writer, was born July 21, 1899 at Oak Park, Cook Co., Illinois, and died July 2, 1961 at Ketchum, Blaine Co., Idaho

Hemingway-1

My 8th cousin once removed. Most recent common ancestor is Ralph (Hemingway) Hemenway
by Frank Gill G2G Astronaut (2.5m points)

Frank, I grew up in Oak Park, Illinois which was not incorporated until 1902. Ernest was born in Cicero and that was his residence in 1900.  He lived in the best part of town at 600 North Kenilworth. Trulia has a picture of the house which is currently valued at $658,918. Frank Lloyd Wright's home was a few blocks away.

I hope that helps a bit on your project. You may need it when you try genealogically defining a man with four wives. :)

  2. Eleonore Lanclos-103, d. 8 Jul 1814, child
  3. Unnamed Infant Rivette-60, d. 28 Jul 1867, newborn
  4. Marie Odile Rivette-80, d. 15 Jul 1858, child
  5. Alvin J. Rivet-588, d. 8 Jul 1968
  6. Hazel Brasseaux-108, d. 2 Jul 2014
  7. Catherine Rivet-565, d. 3 Jul 1996

  9. Noah Peter Anderson-45504, d. 20 Jul 1947
  10. John Jessie Holden-3943, d. 24 Jul 1933

I also worked on this profile, Alfred Rivette-18 -- a profile I adopted a while back which showed death date in July. While fixing up his bio I realized his death date was really in March, but he deserved a biography anyway!

I'm looking forward to this month's challenge!  1/12th of my tree with known death dates should be a big pool to choose from!

Special thanks to Bob for all his hard work for this project and also special thanks for going to bat for us to get a sticker last month.  It was a rough reception and Bob handled it with grace and poise.  Thanks for all you do!

Nice bios Alicia.  Well done.
What a lot of work on Streets.  I love all the extra history you added--a real treasure for the future.
Thank you. Did you also look at John Inglett? I really worked on his a lot, too. He was my grandfather and my dad and I spent an hour on the phone just talking about him. It inspired me to work on him.
Very nice tribute to your grandfather.  Only an hour on the phone?  That is an average day with my mother (I start yawning about 40 minutes in).
Thank you Caryl!
You're welcome and the Inglett profile is excellent.
I enjoyed reading the Inglett profile! Is it possible he boxed in the Navy? Boxing was popular on the ships.
Joyce,

Thank you!

I am not sure. His brother said that he was "Golden Gloves", which isn't the Navy, I don't think. The YMCA ran that, so I reached out to them.
Kathy,

My dad isn't much of a talker in person, much less on the phone. He is excited that I am interested in his dad, I think. My dad is a welder and works welding ships for the Navy. He loves all the ships and really wanted to know more about them. He also had so many memories to share.
That is wonderful!  Keep at him.  I'm sure he has more to say if you can wheedle it out of him.  My brother and one nephew are like that.  Never ask a question that can be answered "yes" or "no" or that is all you'll get.  Our parents won't be here forever.  I regret that I didn't probe my great-aunts and uncles more.

Great theme. I will do several this month.

1. Eugene P. Summerson - died July 1, 1946. My great-grandfather; beginning to research him was one of my gateways into genealogy several years ago! I consider this bio "improved" but not "finished."

2. Sarah Miller Summerson - died July 8, 1921

edited by Lauren Hopkins
I always consider the profiles "Improved" but not finished. We never know what we will find along the way. These people lived many years. Summing them up in a couple of paragraphs hardly feels finished :D
Very well done bio of Summerson.  Isn't it wonderful that many of the passport applications are online now?  They are a great source for all kinds of information since they were completed by the applicant.

Just finished the Cornish poet and novelist Jack Clemo, who died July 1994. A bio built with nearly all my Wikitree hats piled onto my head: Notables, England, Cornwall, BioBuilders and (a non-Wikitree hat) Poetry!

WOW. How much is your hat blocking bill?
Now that's a profession you don't see much today!  (Hat blocking, not poetry)

Standards have changed since I last submitted profiles to biobuilders. I have about eleven profiles I can revisit to get up to standards. With my computer(s) in bits and pieces not sure if I can get them by the end of the month.
by Pat Credit G2G6 Pilot (183k points)
Pat, Whatever standards were in place when the profiles were entered control the bio. However, it doesn’t hurt to go back and bring them up to the current standards at your leisure.
