Patriotic can be address in many ways ... however, since it is the 4th of July week, it made me think of the Revolutionary War.

I have many ancestors who participated in the War ... Three (3) of the about 20 so far bloodline ancestors have been approved as Patriots by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

I have a photo of the three Certificates from the SAR ... not really a photo of the person ... but are photos of the certificates ... not many cameras in 1776?

Thank-you everyone for the great photo's.

Francesco Beneventano del Bosco was an officer of the navy of Kingdom of Two Sicilies in command of the steam frigate Ercole in 1960 when Giuseppe Garibaldi organised the "Spedizione dei mille" following rebellion in Sicily in order to remove the rule of the Bourbon Dinasty from the south of Italy and unite the country under the Savoy dinasty..  The year before, the king of Piedmont with help of Emperor Napoleon III had freed Lombardy from Austrian rule and united several small states (in present Emilia, Tuscany, etc) .In spite of having only 1100 voluntary troops,, taking advantage of the rebellion,, Garibaldi was successful and took the southern Kingdom. from the King of Naples and Sicily allowing unity with the north.. F.. Beneventano del Bosco together with all the navy except one ship rallied  with the small navy of Piedmont and later  when the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed (1861) was incorporated in the newly formed Italian Navy., contrary to his brother Ferdinando that was a general in the army and one of the few officers remainig faithful to the Bourbon king .For the picure see Francesco Beneventano del Bosco on wikitree

Ah Gino, most interesting. Here you have two patriots, two men willing to vigorously support their country and defend it against enemies of detractors. And they wound up on opposite sides.

Thanks for sharing them both with us.

52 Photos, Week 27 Patriotic

I know that I shared a picture of military records that were hard to read, but I want to make sure I earn my badge, so I am going to share Patriotic pictures from our house.

We have a tree in our entry way that we decorate for all of the holidays.  This is our tree decorated for Memorial Day and the 4th of July.  I think it looks very patriotic.

500px-Smith-159364-6.jpg

This is a picture of a wreath that is hanging at the end of our staircase. I made this last year. It also hangs for Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

We also decorate the rest of the inside of our house, and the outside of our house for all holidays.

I hope I deserve this weeks entry now.

All I can say is you are the sweetest person I have ever met. Thank you Susan.

What is more patriotic than that of a soldier in uniform? This is of my father, William MacDonald Flamer, who served during WWI and the Korean Conflict.

Sgt Jacob Faden served in the US Army in World War I. He died on  7 April 1962 (aged 74) and, as a veteran, lies buried in Richmond National Cemetery, Richmond, Henrico County, Virginia.

Thank you for sharing him with us.
And I see his son served in the Marines in World War II. A patriotic family!

It took me a bit to figure out how to do it - but these are images from video I took during the 70th Annual Fourth of July Parade in Chesterfield, Massachusetts. My son and daughter-in-law are in what was my father-in-law's every day vehicle for many years. A 1952 Dodge Power Wagon, otherwise known as "Big John" and as always painted in Dutch Boy Orange.

The annual parade is quite a big deal in Chesterfield. It starts out with a pancake breakfast at the firehouse, there is a small engine display, the local museum is open, there is usually some sort of craft or historical display in the Town Hall, the parade with children in costume, children on bikes, floats, classic cars, fire trucks, and more, then a band on the lawn of the Town Hall (visible in the first picture), a chicken barbecue dinner at the church, hamburgers and a fireman's muster at the ballfield, a finally a family game of baseball.

Better late than never, but I wanted to get my pix in for week 15 (for me).  I have (somewhere) a pix of Dina Merrell visiting the troops during WW2, but of course, I couldn't find it when I needed it.  So as my contribution to "Patriotic" is a pix of my dad in 1945ish, a couple years before I was born, in his Army Air Corps uniform.  He was one of the relatively small number of ppl in the "Army Air Corps" before it officially became the Air Force.  He was stationed in Saipan with the 869th Bomb Squadron.

Lynn, your father was certainly a very handsome man. Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo of him in WWII.
Thanks, Alexis!  Funny that we are cousins on his side of the family and have the B29 connection.

Tried to find the photo of my dad as Abraham Lincoln for the July 4, 1976 celebration.  No joy.  Good alternative is my paternal granddad in uniform, WWII.

Most of these people were WW2 veterans. The Royal Canadian Legion supplied Colour Parties for most parades in Canada, and still does. This picture is of my dad's Comrades in about 1990.
