Trying to find the father of Thomas Benton Cox Cox-25124

Question

Hello,

My great grandfather was Thomas Benton Cox Cox-25124.  I can not find his father.  I find him and his mother Mary Sturm listed in the 1850 Census in Lincoln, Tennessee.  There is no mention of his father.  On some of the ancestry.com family trees it just lists him as Mr. Cox.  Any help would be appreciated.

Her married name was Cox.  I believe her maiden name was Sturm.

In the 1850 census for Subdivision 2 Lincoln, Tennessee I find Mary Cox and two pages from that record is a James Cox who is 20 and a Stabler. Here is James Find A Grave

Born in Wilson County, Tennessee, USA on 11 Feb 1847 to Cader Cox and Edna "'edney'" Bishop Cox. Thomas Benton Cox married Martha Ann Foutch Sanders Cox and had 8 children. He passed away on 16 Sep 1933.

I located it on Ancestry although I am not actually a Member.

I have endeavoured to verify Cader myself without success. On reflection I am not yet convinced Cader is actually correct. I am wondering if the answer lies in different children from different marriages/relationships? It appears that Cader married his sister-in-law (perhaps after the death of his wife?)

I find Cader Cox in the Census for 1860, 1870, and 1880  I do not find a listing for Thomas Benton Cox among those living in the household.  I believe you are correct.  There is some mixing of records.   Thank you for looking.  If you find anything else please let me know.
