Suggestion 305 - what is correct mother’s age at birth?

+3 votes

Working on DD Project Report  ( for Suggestion 305, where mother [[Williams-25891|Ann (Willuams) Kavanaugh]] is born in 1712 and son [[Kavanaugh-45|Charles Fredric Kavanaugh Sr.]] is born in 1716. When trying to save changes to mother’s profile, I receive the following message:

Warning: Check the data.

1. A child’s birthdate (Kavanaugh-45 born 1716) should not be before a parent is six years old (Williams-25891 born 1712).

Clicked on “more info” on  this warning panel and was transported to “Help:Data Validation” ( where I find the following:

  • The child’s birth date is before a parent was six years old.

However ... if I go to “Data Error 305: Mother is too young or not born” (, I see “a mother must be aged at least 10 years at the birth date of any of her children.”

Your question is almost impossible to read in that font and size, especially the yellow bits.

Are you asking whether the age in these two statements should be consistent:

  • The child’s birth date is before a parent was six years old.

However ... if I go to “Data Error 305: Mother is too young or not born” (, I see a mother must be aged at least 10 years at the birth date of any of her children.

Yes, that was my original intention. I have gathered some good information by not being clear though.

That puts his birth around 1726, a MUCH more plausible birth year!  (and a simple typo, 1716 instead of 1726)

I’m going to send all my queries straight to you, Cheryl, and bypass G2G! laugh

Pip, you are funny, and a much better researcher than I am. But thank you for the compliment. laugh

Rob, glad it helped!
Oh, I don’t know about that, Cheryl. Don’t sell yourself short!

Thank you, Pip! Sometimes it doesn't feel like it. While you give me praise, someone else is yelling at me for breaking Honor Codes 3 & 4, which I would never do.

Thank you for making me feel better! heart

Thank you, Linda, for giving me a Star tonight. I appreciate it more than you know! laugh

I believe the cutoff is 10 years old.  In my family tree, I've had mothers giving birth as young as 11 but none younger. For any of the database errors for parents too old or too young, just realize one of the dates is wrong and look for a better source for either the parent or the child.

ETA: or they could be a stepmother or father.

Let's not be too dogmatic about even 10 years of age.

Lina Marcela Medina de Jurado was the youngest confirmed mother in history, giving birth at age five years, seven months, and 21 days.

While it is rare, it can and does happen outside what we may think of as "normal".

Melanie, that is so interesting.  Who knew!  It's hard to imagine what that would be like for anyone in the family.  I have a friend whose mother was 15 and some of the issues around a young mother are still hard for her at age 60.
I had read of an eight-year-old some while ago .. and it was her I was actually looking for.  Finding that 5 year-old blew me away.
