Today's Pick is from our Notables project.  John Pemberton was born on this day, 8 July 1831, and is the inventor of Coca-Cola!  The story of how Coca-Cola came about is pretty interesting. It all stemmed from John's addiction to morphine after a slash wound he sustained to the chest during the Civil War.

This was a real treat Eowyn! It really puts the context in coke, and paints the stark reality of just how bad the chronic pain felt to war veterans. It's fascinating history, but so tragic.
