My sister with the new kitten we got back in 1977.

He was named Tiger Tim because he had sharp claws.

As a family we have only ever had cats.

Beautiful kitty sitting with your sister Robynne thank You for sharing this wonderful photo
Certainly a well planned shot,   the photographer can be commended......   I've only had one cat..... she lived 20 years and when she died my husband's allergies went away.   That cat was always on his chest or lap, where ever he sat!

My Father Marx goldmark who had a tame bird that greet him every time he came out, the bird loved him and the birds name was claus

by Susan Laursen G2G Astronaut (3.0m points)
Once again, Susan, you came up with a great picture.  I love this picture of your dad, with Claus. How funny that your dad was able to train a bird to come out to greet him every day.

What a man your dad must have been.

Thank you for sharing this picture!
It seems like your family has the "gift" with wildlife.  Makes me wonder if you guys are related to Dr. Dolittle. ;)  Great photo Susan.  Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thank You Cheryl for your wonderful comments, i wish I had meet claus, my dad was a wonderful man a very patient man.
Thank You Caryl you are very funny my parents took lots of animals in when they where sick, where I live all the people from the backyard, knew my mother would do anything to save and animals, one cats she got by the stood outside her door on three floor and the one end op being 19 and one 21 she actually had 5 cats. Thank You for your sweet comments still laughing
Thank you for another wonderful photo of your dad. The bird looks rather large -- do you know what kind of bird it was? It takes a special person to train wild things -- he must have been a special person.
Thank You Robin you are sweet, yes it is a crow actually a wild bird but the bird did not know that he love my dad.

He did not train it but brought food to the bird.

He was very special and he just love animals like me
Susan you always have such great photos, and I also think that it is important to teach children to love and care for animals.
Alexis thank You how sweet of you to say so, I think the same about your wonderful photos they are gorgeous

This is a 1923 photo of my husband's grandmother, Audrey Jones Nelson, with my father-in-law, LeRoi Nelson. There are other photos of LeRoi with his little white dog, but this is a family favorite.

by Alexis Nelson G2G6 Pilot (843k points)
Alexis ahh adorable little dog, so very cute. Thank You for sharing this wonderful photo with a wonderful dog
What a wonderful photo, Alexis!  The dog is so sweet and LeRoi looks so precious.  I love his outfit and Audrey is a beautiful woman. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you Susan for your sweet comment.
Thank you Robin, Audrey would love your comment. In her later years she would often say, "I could go anytime, but I look good."
I will definitely say that your grandmother-in-law steals this picture. She is really dressed to the nines! And she is gorgeous. And the outfit she has on her son is absolutely adorable. I don't think I have seen a cuter outfit on a little boy than on LeRoi.

Their little dog is very cute. I am not sure that LeRoi is very happy in this picture though. . .

I think this is an adorable picture for Pet's week.

Thank you for sharing!
Yes Cheryl, I think our family has decided that LeRoi is not happy about the way Audrey has him dressed, as he is definitely not in his play clothes. Thanks for another very insightful comment.
And she DOES look good!! Beautiful picture!
Thank you Lynn. She always spoke very southern and called her son LahRooah. We got lots of good laughs after an a day with her.

This is a photo taken later of LeRoi and his little white dog.

Alexis love this photo really adorable thank You for sharing
Thank you Susan, I thought I needed to show one where he looked like he loved his little dog.
Alexis it is a wonderful photo of the both

This is a photo of my husband's uncle Bill Shaules with his pet dog. It was taken in 1915 when Bill was about three years old.

The dog is at least as big as Bill, but they both look quite content to be together.

by Robin Shaules G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Robin what a adorable dog, and your husbands uncle Bill,

I can se how much the love each other, thank You for sharing this treasure
Thank you, Susan, for your comment. You're always so kind!
Robin this is the sweetest photo, what a happy dog!
Thank you, Alexis!
Robin, you have some pretty cool pictures. I love this one of your husband's Uncle Bill and his dog. They look like they are out in the middle of no-where. Can you imagine what our boys would have said if we had put a dress on them when they were three? But he looks so adorable in this picture. I wonder if the dog was named Spot, with that huge big white spot in the middle of his chest.

Thank you for sharing this picture.
Thanks for your comment, Cheryl. They were in an area of San Diego called Encanto -- then undeveloped. Bill's father developed that area and today it is a "neighborhood" of San Diego and very crowded. I'm not sure if Bill is wearing a dress because it was the way they dressed 3 year old boys back then, or if it's because his next older sibling was a girl. Spot would be a good name for the dog, but I don't know what it was.
I probably shouldn't have called it a dress - maybe a nightshirt. I thought it would probably be very developed by now.  How cool that Bill's father developed that area.

Thanks for the additional information, Robin!
I love this dog.   Not sure if he likes having his picture taken or the petting.  It's usually hard to upstage a 3 year old,  but  "Spot" sure did.
Thanks, Peggy. I think the name "Spot" is going to stick. I wonder what kind of dog he was -- probably a "mutt", and he was sure patient.

Here's one  from 1926, of my aunt and uncle, Mildred and Willis, my grandmother Edith looking like a flapper, and one of their collie dogs. They had 2 at this time. I think this is Sheba, but am not 100% certain, as my mother wasn't even born yet, let alone me!

Thank You for sharing this wonderful photo
What a lovely photo, Alison. The family look serene and happy. Obviously the Sheba was part of the family. Thank you for sharing it.
Alison, This is such a cute picture. Back in the day everyone wanted a Collie and your aunt and uncle had one.

Your grandmother is a stunning looking lady.

Thank you for sharing.
Yes, and I look like her. Hope I don't inherit the cancer that her family was prone to.
Alison, then you must be a stunner! I also hope that you are not cancer prone. That would be terrible.

I will say a quick, short prayer for you!

500px-Smith-159364-8.jpg

Our Cat, Sami Jo as she helps dad learn the computer. She is a registered blue point siamese, and the sweetest cat I have ever seen. She plays catch, hide n seek, and follows us around the house.

500px-Smith-159364-7.jpg

Sami Jo also likes to watch Vana White on Wheel of Fortune. She jumps on the TV stand, and she will follow Vana as she walks across the stage. Sometimes Sami will follow her and will fall off of the TV stand.

Robin, I would have loved to have seen that. I bet it was hysterical!

Thank you for sharing Cheryl.

The adorable photo of the Kitten on the keyboard reminded me of the time I tried to wipe Herbert Tardy's moustache off his face on his profile picture because I thought it was cat hair on my tablet screen.

Have a great day.heart

Oh Sharon. That is very funny!

She does leave  hair everywhere and I did have a good laugh at myself afterwards.

Oh my, what big eyes your cat has. And so beautiful. Sharon, thank you for sharing.

I love it. When my screen opened to those big eyes, I kind of jumped back.  Too funny. laugh

She had just came back from the vets.

He had to cut off her tail as it had got mangled in the engine of my 4x4. I did not know she was there until she sort of rolled out from under the car after I had started the engine. She was a stray who wandered out of my forest somewhere. Those eyes made me feel guilty for weeks.

Sorry about the fright.
Sharon what a adorable cat, eyes as big as teacup Beautiful cat

Glad she is ok after loosing some of her tail.

Thank You for sharing the story and the photo of this beauty

For Susan.

you are so sweet Sharon

What fun Cheryl!   My husband had a Siamese before we were married  ..... he said Chay would "talk" a lot.

I come from many generations of dog lovers.  I need to scan more family photos from my Mom's collection to illustrate.  Always in the house, under foot and over indulged. I think that I might have I shared this photo already so please forgive me if I did.  My grandma is the infant, great grandma and great great grandma are sitting on the porch steps with "the dogs".  Always dogs.

Thanks for this lovely photo, Caryl. It looks like gr-gr-grandma is trying to get the dog to pose. This photo looks very iconic with everyone on the porch, the men in rocking chairs. I the way everyone is dressed.

My dad and all his siblings love animals, and I know for sure that their dad loved animals, and their dad's mom loved animals too.

And I like to think, based an entirely on this photo, that the love of animals all goes back to their dad's mom's mom - my great-great-grandmother Liz Bennett.

Here she is, taking a nap a hundred years ago, with her cat.

I don't know that cat's name, but I do know her daughter's cat's name. This is my great-grandmother, Mabel Mounts, and Dusty.

And, for good measure, here's my grandpa with Dusty too.

by Jessica Hammond G2G6 Mach 3 (34.5k points)
Thank you for these photos. I especially like the one with your g-g grandmother napping and being watched over by her cat. It appears your ancestors were real cat lovers.
Thank You Jessica for sharing those wonderful photos

What an adorable kitty
Seems like our pets seem to unite us,  even centuries later.

This is my great-great grand uncle Edward 'Ted' Knighton. I don't know the name of the dog, or if it belonged to him. The reason I have shared this photo is because it is very important to me. Ted had a learning disability, and never married or had children, so he has no descendants. I was worried that I would never find a picture of him. But luckily a distant relative had this photo.

by James Knighton G2G6 Mach 2 (27.9k points)
It's wonderful that you have this photo. I have relatives who never married or had children and I can see how they often get left out of the stories and history. Edward seems pleased to be with this beautiful dog. Thank you for sharing it.

For decades I owned a house on an acre of land.  I always had "working cats" to keep the pest population down.  The cats were outdoor independent creatures, happy to drink at the creek that ran through my property, satisfied with kibbles for their efforts. In 2012 my granddaughter, who I was raising, wanted a kitten for a pet.  I really didn't want a pet, but how can you say no to a grandchild?  We went to the pound and adopted a four-month-old who she named Belphegor. It took Bel about a week to decide that I was his human, rejecting my disappointed grandchild.

When I would arrive home from work Bel the cat who adopted me would always be waiting at the French door window impatiently expecting his dinner and acknowledgment. You can see him in the picture peering out in the lower left door.

I sold my house to downsize just two months after this picture was taken. Bel and I moved from the cold, damp, dreary Olympic Peninsula to the warm, dry Southwest.  He wasn't all that thrilled about leaving his forest, but we are better for the change.  I hope he keeps me company for a good long time.

Bert loved tennis balls so much,  it didn't matter if they were frozen in a sheet of ice.

I grew up with german shepards,   Bert died at the age of 13 in 1996.    He was our last german shepard,  from then on shelter dogs with short hair.

Bert is adorable what a cute

My grandpa was always a dog person (my grandma was fonder of cats, but she was a dog lover, too), but he owned a cat growing up.

You made this a tough week - no family photos with pets found. But these are part of my brother's "family." You can decide which is the pet and which is the master.

I love the calico kitty. They must be great friends. Wonderful photo -- thank you for sharing it.
What a pair!   I'll admit my dogs would never let our cat do this.
I love her too.

My brother lives on a farm - cats are fed once a day to keep some around the farm at all times - this keeps the mice down.

She just showed up one day, and decided to  stay - she is the only cat to establish such a good relationship with the dog.
Jim what an adorable photo i think the cat are the master.

What an Patience dog

Thank You for sharing this wonderful photo
Susan - I think you are correct - the cat is "on top."

Best wishes.

I had lots of photos of each of my parents when they were cute kids with puppies and such, but had to go with this photo of my mother (c.1950) with a young fox, while stationed in Germany after the war.

by Charles Sheard G2G2 (2.1k points)
It's nice to see a different pet. Your mother must have been very special to make friends with a fox. Also, I really like her outfit. Thank you for sharing this picture.
Charles what a cute fox wow imagine a tame fox.

This is my dog, Tobias, almost a year old and looking cool, calm and collected. The rest of the time he is tripping over his feet while following me around, or he wants endless pats, a bone to chew on, or to fetch a ball, which he learned himself.

by David Urquhart G2G6 Pilot (166k points)

Thanks for sharing David. He reminds me of my mother's brindle Staffy. Does Tobias lick people all the time? My mother's Staffy does...He is super friendly.smiley

Lol, no Sharon, he doesn't lick just anybody. His mother is the Staffy. His father is a Blue Heeler. He will growl at anyone he doesn't know.

Sounds like he is very protective of you.yes

He sure looks like he'd let us pet him!     But if he's bonded with you,  that's all that's required.

500px-Photos_for_Peg-5.jpgThis is Kinsey at her favorite window,  she trusted only 5 people enough to let them pet her.  (We got her from a shelter at 10 months.)

Kinsey was very lucky you found her Peggyheart She looks extremely comfortable in your photo.

That's a flashy dog bed Peggy. :)
Only the best for Kinsey...... actually,  it was our solution to keeping her from scratching the woodwork when she barked at dogs passing by.
David your dog are so sweet thank You for sharing

When my husband and I got married 12 years ago, we had his and hers in kids - all long grown and gone - and we started our family together - so now we also have our kids.

by Gaile Connolly G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)

Those smooching pooches sure look sweet Gaileheart

Oh, Sharon, you wouldn't believe how sweet, but one thing they're not is gentle.  They'll knock you down, then lick you to death.  Annie is the oldest - she's about 5 there and established her absolute rule very quickly when the dogs joined the family.  All 3 come from rescue groups - we believe in that.  Based on appearance, SAM (stands for Surface to Air missile) is a yellow lab/great dane cross, about 100 pounds and about 2 there.  Renny (short for Renaissance) is our pointer/St Bernard who was only about 7 months there.  He's also about 100 pounds now.

They sound just like my mum's Staffy.  I am always touched when I hear that someone has adopted animals from shelters.

heartThank you for sharing and I think Annie certainly looks the part of Queen there.

Yah for shelter dogs!!   When we were young we had German Shepards.... but we're now shelter pet owners.  I was a bit surprised our first shelter dog was as smart as our German Shepards..... Though perhaps more difficult to train.

Sort of looks like your cat might have the upper hand.
