My Uncle, John Allison Rammel, and his wife raised birds.  They had parakeets, cock-a-dos and parrots.

They raised them as pets, but also sold some to pet shops for resale.

Below are some photos of some of his birds.

The first one is "Pedro" the family parrot.  He actually outlived his owners.

Next is John's son, Hal Gustaf Rammel, with one of the many parakeets.

Last is a copy of their business card for their "Aviaries".

We  feed  wild birds but don't have bird pets.    One summer a Love Bird came to our deck and stuck around...  He was still there as winter approached and we knew he couldn't survive a Kansas winter.   We caught him and gave him to a friend, who was an architect.   She took the bird to work with her most days.

My dad passed away Feb. of this year. Dad with Bruno - photo taken on their farm in White Plains, KY circa 1929.

by Jon Slaton G2G1 (1.8k points)
Looks like Bruno might soon dash after a rabbit.   Great Shot.

Sorry to hear about your Dad.    When things aren't so raw,  you'll probably start his bio and posting photos to his profile.  For me,  this helped keep Dad close.
Your dad and the cat look like they have fun together

I am sad to read about your dad died in February most be a lost for you

These are my father, Manuel López López and his sister Pili. The photo was taken in Riaño, the town where my father was born and which currently does not exist anymore: it is under the waters of a swamp that was built years later.

I guess the cat was the pet of a relative or neighbor, because as far as I know, my father never had animals.

My wife got Barney McGoo II, a basset hound for me as a Valentine's Day present in 1978.  He was a best buddy and always willing to please. He went to Germany with us for a 3-yr tour with the Army and enjoyed the  10 KM Volksmarch every weekend- especially the part at the  end where we eat bratwurst and drink beer.   Here is my story about dogs-    https://raysruminationblook.wordpress.com/2016/07/22/dogs/

When my parents were courting in the late 40s/early 50s, my father stole her heart by offering to take care of her kittens and mama cat while she went away on a trip.  He was a cat person ever after.

by Jaki Erdoes G2G6 Mach 1 (16.8k points)
Ohhh, Kitties!! And Siamese on top of it! I'd guess that was a job. Your dad found a unique way to win his girl. What did your mom do with all the kittens? Thanks for sharing this photo.
Jaki they are adorable and so many thank You for sharing this Beautiful photo

You're most welcome!  One of those kittens was named Moishy, and he was our cat when I was growing up.  He died at the age of 20 when I was 11.  I don't know whether my mom sold the other kittens or gave them away.  She kept the mother cat, Smoky, until my older brother started crawling and Smoky scratched his face.  So Smoky had to find a new home!  Moishy, on the other hand, was a total sweetheart.  Here he is with my mom years later.

Gorgeous cat those eyes are adorable thank You for sharing Jaki

Growing up we had the meanest cat I've ever known.  Her name was "Precious".  NOT!  She is the white cat in this picture.  She would bite your toes at the drop of a hat or any time someone even petted her.  Why we kept that cat around I will never understand.

by Randall Gardner G2G6 Mach 1 (13.5k points)
Randall, we have three cats. Two are very sweet, and one is very naughty. She nips, claws, knocks things off tables and continues to upset the other two, but she certainly keeps us very entertained. Maybe your family got some good laughs when Precious misbehaved.
hi hi Randell I most say respect for keeping the cat, my parents had a mean cat like this they had 5 but one of them we call stocking killer he was mean and he actually live 20 years.

Thank You for sharing this wonderful photo

This picture is of my in-laws, Rudy and Jinny, before they were married with her housemates and dachshund Fiesel 1.

Jinny was living in Portland and had gotten a dachshund puppy, she decided to have a naming contest with the neighborhood kids. The winning name was Fiesel and the rest became history. They had a total of five dachshunds through the years - all named Fiesel.

After my father-in-law moved to an assisted living facility, we took Fiesel 5 home with us. The second picture is Fiesel 5 visiting Rudy in his apartment

I'm a bit late, but I just love this picture of my grandfather and one of his dogs, probably called Laddie or Lassie (depending on which dog this is).  You see his beat-up farmer's hat, his pipe in his hand, and of course, a favored animal.
