I don't beleive that it possible. The global tree that we are building here on Wikitree is being saved in the "Cloud" and that is the whole purpose of Wikitree being here, in the first place.

What exactly do you want to do offline?

Probably the ONLY thing you can do is to write biographies offline and then paste them into the correct profiles when you do get online. Honestly everything else, (data fields) have to be filled in, while you are online.

Most of the sources you need to find, will be accessible from Family Search (for free) and that is an online database, so you cannot search that offline.

I agree.  The most time-consuming part is writing biographies, which can be written and coded offline.  Then copied and pasted when you are connected.

I added the "improvements" tag to this question because the ability to use at least some elements of WikiTree offline would be a wonderful addition to the site (not just for people with expensive data). It would be a heavy lift to create an offline application, but I hope it's something that the tech team will brainstorm about.

If there was a way to work offline, you'd be more likely to run into conflicts where other people may have changed the same profile, or perhaps merges needed, if you add a profile that somebody else adds while you're offline.

You can export a GEDCOM file, I haven't tried it and don't know how it works.  I assume you select the desired profiles somehow.  Then you could work on that part of the tree with the genealogy program of your choice. Bringing the data back to WikiTree would be a bit tedious however, and have the usual problem with importing sources from a GEDCOM.

I do most of my work at home on the laptop. With home internet it's a flat monthly charge. Data charges only apply for use with phones (at least in the U.S.) and I would have a hard time working on WikiTree on a phone.  I need to have multiple tabs, big screens, etc.

Agreed. My apartment building is wired for cable/DSL so we have unlimited data at an affordable monthly rate. We are online as soon as the computer gets turned on and booted up.

The only time we are "offline" is when the power goes out  for whatever reason....  And then we cannot do anything on the computer or tablet at all.
