John, good question. My weekly email is full with rows and rows of deceased individuals' birthdays. The Wikitree email settings allow you to subscribe or unsubscribe to the "WikiTree Family News" emails, but there are no settings to control the contents of these emails. It would be nice if we could select e.g.,

  • Include birthdays for living individuals
  • Include birthdays for dead individuals
  • Include anniversaries of deaths
  • Include anniversaries of marriages for living individuals
  • Include anniversaries of marriages for dead individuals

But this level of control does not appear to be possible now.

That would be the best way of handling it, thanks Christian.

I've added this to the suggestions list.

Thanks Jamie

John, at the bottom of your e-mail, there should be this message:

You can unsubscribe via your e-mail settings, reduce the volume of messages by removing tags you're following, entirely suspend your participation or permanently close your account.

When you click on the first link, you will be taken to a screen that will enable you to opt out of some or all of your e-mails.

The second link will take you to the tags that you follow, so you can edit them, and you will stop receiving e-mails on the ones that you opt out on.

The third link will take you to a place that will show you how you can reduce your participation and it also will explain more about your e-mail selections.

And I prefer not to discuss the last link.

I hope this answers your question. I am very sorry that you are being upset by the birthday reminders. I can understand how you feel.

Bless you, John, and have a good evening.

Or you can:

Go to the My WikiTree dropdown in the upper right of the page. In the drop-down select settings. In settings uncheck all the types of email you do not wish to receive.

Thank you for selecting my answer, Gaile!
Thanks Cheryl, but it's just seeing the birthdays of immediate deceased family members that are upsetting. Stopping the email means that I also lose the activity feed, but it looks like I have no option :(
No worries. I can understand, John. Have a blessed day!
