A few things that may help your search. Kings Mountain sits over two counties today, Cleveland and Gaston. Cleveland County did not exist until 1841 and was formed out of Lincoln and Rutherford counties. Gaston county was formed in 1846 though the area had settlers as early as 1750. A quick search a couple of places did not show a Clarissa Ann Tate in this period however that was not a complete search. I noticed that the Family Search citation on the current profile is user submitted, has no documentation, and thus is not a valid citation. I would suggest going downstream to the place there is primary source documentation and working backward one step at a time to make sure those connections are valid and documented.

It may be worth doing some searching in NC colonial era records which can be searched here: https://docsouth.unc.edu/csr/

Her  supposed  father William  has  been  proven  as  a  DAR  patriot via military  service.  Several applicants  used and  proved  his  son  William Tate  Jr.  His  son  was  mentioned  in  the  will  but  not  Clarissa, Records  we  searched  were from  Updike and  Mentzel, citation  was  poor if  none.  William  the  patriot  died  about  1810, can  you  tell  me  where  that  will  may  have  been  recorded  then it  could  have  also  been  in  Franklin  Co  Ga.   Thanks  for  your  suggestions.  Hart
